M235i Lease - With Questions (of course)
So I'm looking to lease an M235i.
There's a 2015 M235i near me that has no options except Leather and Bluetooth. It's a 6spd...so pretty bare bones - which is what I prefer. They're asking $46,100... What should I be aiming for in terms of a good lease? How much lower from MSRP would I be looking to get them. I'd be looking at maybe 10k miles/year for 36 months. Tax is 6.5% in Florida. I would be willing to put down like $700 (first month and maybe tag transfer) and trade my E92 335i in. The E92 would just be paid off and wouldn't count towards the new lease (except the tax benefit). Just wondering what .MF and monthly payment I should be looking at...I suck with this stuff. I know there's some Holiday Cash going around too... Free rep and hugs to anyone that helps. I'm in serious need of help with this lease option and would truly be in debt to whoever helps... |

Here's what they came back with - which stinks BTW:
39 Months .60% Residual $1,400 Down (not happening) $579.00 (not including tax) - $600+ with tax in 1.3% Buy Rate 46,050 MSRP -$500 Holiday Cash --------------------------------------- I'm looking to be very close to $500 tax in (which is possible based on what I've seen on here). How much do they need to budge on MSRP? |

Current residual for 39mo/10k is indeed 60%. Standard MF should be .0013. BMW holiday incentive is $500. There's also an acquisition fee which is typically $725, but your dealer may attempt to mark this up to $925. This fee you would need to be paid up front, or you can roll it into the lease.
In any case, in order to get ~500/month payment (tax inclusive at 6.5%), your negotiated price would have to be ~$42,400. With the MSRP being $46050, you would need a total discount of about $3650 ($500 BMW incentive is included here). That sounds a little too aggressive for this car, but different regions may be different (here in the west coast, big discounts are rare for in-stock cars). What you could do to reduce the MF and thus your monthly is to do security deposits. (I know you mentioned you didn't want to put money up front, but I'll just mention it anyway.) BMW allows up to 7. BTW, these are fully refundable at lease end unlike "money down". If you were to put the 7 security deposits, your MF becomes .00081. To get a monthly of ~$500, your selling price then be ~$43700, for a discount of $2350. Again, not sure how M235i's are selling in Florida, but this may be a little more do-able. Do note that you would have to put 7 * 500 = $3500 as a security deposit up front. (If your monthly is above 500, then you would have to round up to the next 550, then put 7*550= 3850.) Your drive-off would then be: $500 (first month) + $725 (acquisition fee) + DMV fees + security deposits. Yes, it would be a large drive-off, but again, you should get the security deposits at lease end provided there aren't any over-charges. You could elect to roll some of the "fees" into the lease, but then your monthly will go up. Hope this helps. |

You two are awesome! I called another dealer that was recommended by a fellow M235'er and the guy was amazing on the phone. Extremely honest and easy going. A little higher than I was hoping to go...but still in the ball park. We ended up discussing the following: 2015 M235i Premium Package Total Price of $46,750 Dealer discount of $2,800 (6%) Holiday cash of $500 .60 residual .00140 MF (they bump it up 10pts - he was completely honest with me on it) 6.5% tax $823 down (first month, tag and two other small fees) $571.24 per month (tax included) He also mentioned that there is an extra $1,000 add-on that can be used if a car is purchased before December 24. This $1,000 discount wasn't included in the math above...it's additional. This would be for an ordered car as he didn't have any on his lot. Last edited by pimp4cheddar; 12-19-2014 at 08:19 AM.. |

You're looking at around $540 a month with the extra $1000 christmas rebate. Get that $1,000 rebate and try to another $500 off. So a discount of around $4200 total. Call a few more sales managers and tell them you want a car with $46750 msrp and a discount of $4200. See what they say - that should bring you to $520-$525 a month. Edit: $823 due at signing? sounds too good to be true, i think they're rolling some extra stuff into the monthly payment. Should be between $1500-$2000..double check on that! I would personally tell them that I only want to pay "inceptions." If inceptions are only $800, i'm registering my next car at my parents place in miami EDIT #2: Oh, youre doing 36(!!!!) months! Ok, still. The same deal with 39 months is $540/mo. If you get another $500 off, you can get to $530ish. 1 more thing. If you can get another dealer to do .0013, that brings you to about $520.

I would definitely say pass on doing that. You're monthly is lower by about $150 a month vs what I normally see on here...so you're definitely getting the short end of the stick. NEVER put down that kind of cash on a lease...everyone on here will advise the same. It's sunken cost that you never get back. Don't put down more than $1,500...covers first and last month and fees. $15k down is insane and your tossing cash in the air... I don't know what the residuals look like this month so I can't help there... |

I figured purchasing the car is a better choice. I looked at this option because we are looking at an M2 a year after its release. Let the 1st gens work out the little bugs.
I actually emailed Steve Thomas BMW but they do not have mineral white / Coral red in stock. I don't know if they like to deal with other dealers or not but there are two within 100 miles that have the spec I want. |

Yeah they'll give you invoice on euro delivery, but unless you're flying to Munich, look elsewhere. Board sponsors are hit up the most for deals, so they have no shortage of potential buyers.

True. I sensed the demand for this vehicle is high at the moment. However, we cannot see ourselves in another vehicle.
So I am assuming that the MSRP listed in my first post is pretty standard correct? These dealers try to add on a bunch of crap in order for me to eat up the premium on each product. 395 for tint??!?!?! Come on!! this is socal!! I can get this done for >150.00 and that is using the best film. |

Depends. If you get favorable rates and an attractive discount on a lightly optioned car, apply the seven max security deposits and pay all initiation fees up front, plus live in a county with low sales tax, it's possible.

That's cool. That's different than what they were doing two months ago. I'm just wondering if they're blowing through all their 2 series allocations in hopes of ensuring they get a crap load of M2 allocations.
It wouldn't be far fetched to assume that BMW NA will be giving the largest number of allocations of the M2 to the dealerships that sold the most 2 series models. Maybe. Wouldn't be a bad idea seeing as how the 2 series will have a lower profit margin than an M2. Make a smaller profit now to ensure you get more high ticket items later, with higher profit margins. |
