Lease end with summer tires?

Not sure where this question should go, certainly isn't technical so here it is.

M235i lease ends in March. I need new tires now. Living in PA means summer tires will be useless for a bulk of the rest of my lease. My sales advisor told me that as long as the car didn't come with runflats I can put anything that matches size/quality/speed rating, which is what the lease end website states.

I called BMW financial for clarification and they said it needs to have the exact tires. Has anyone turned in a lease with yet with non-exact tires?

If I have to buy a new set of MPSS, so be it, but I was hoping to buy a set of all-seasons so I could at least drive it the remaining few months as I have 9k miles left on my lease.

It does not have to be the exact same tire just same size, speed rating etc. RF vs not you just need to turn it in with what it came with.

So by that reasoning an all-season with a 92Y speed rating (same as MPSS) with the same size should be acceptable. That's what I was hoping to do.

Should be totally fine just call your dealer to confirm for safety sake. You can't turn it back in with snow tires but all season vs summer should not be a problem as long as the ratings are the same.

Well I have it in writing from my dealer stating as much, I was just surprised to get conflicting info from BMW financial.

Also, are you planning to lease another BMW from the same dealership? Often they will overlook things like this , over KMs, etc as long as you are remaining to be a customer.

No, walking away from this one. Though I still have a 340 leased through them and will probably continue that trend assuming the 340 keeps me happier than the 235 did.

You will be expected to put on star spec tires in OEM size especially if you are walking away. If you are getting a car from the dealership, they sometimes work around that.

I do lease end inspections and I ok them as long as they are the same size and speed rating. The "quality" of the tire might be subjective for each inspector though.

I was told by my dealer when I signed my lease that as long as they were BMW approved (ie. the Star on the sidewall) and I would assume if they were RF they should be RF's as well.

In my case, its covered by the end of lease wear warranty I took (if they come back worn and need replacing) and was told as long as they aren't "Store brand".
