I've really messed up big time...Replaced my steering wheel

So I swapped my steering wheel the other day for a carbon alcantara wheel, I followed all the necessary steps....

Disconnect battery (left boot open of course and seats down)
Remove airbag
Remove steering wheel
Remove trim/buttons and transfer to new

and then the reverse order.

I have then turned the car back on and the airbag light came on "Driver restraint system". When i pushed down on the horn, it would constantly go off until I turned the battery off.

So a few days has passed and ive purchased myself a lead to try and code out the fault, but now when i turn the car on and start driving, a few seconds goes by and the horn just constantly blows. This happened while i was driving down the road, so in a panic, I parked to the side of the road (luckily in a parking bay) ran out the car and turned the battery off, closed the boot (idiot) and now my car of couse wont turn on. I did leave the seats down but I have no idea how to unlock the boot from inside and I've scoured the internet and cant find a solution.

I'm completely lost as to what to do, or what is going on with the airbag/horn.

Does anyone have any suggestions I could try?

I just read somewhere that potentially the earth cable in the steering wheel could be an issue, not sure if I'm misreading. Anyone know if that could be a potential reason for this ?

Isn't there an emergency trunk release (glow-in-the-dark) in the M2? I thought that was law. So if you can get in from the back seat, you should be able to see it and unlock the trunk

Make sure the horns cable is grounded properly (it's like a washer that you attach to the metal frame of the wheel with a screw). As for the errors, that's no big deal - just ask your dealer to clear the codes for you. If you want further help, take your airbag off and post a pic of your wiring; I'll point out what you need to change!

I really can't find anything, I'd be so grateful if anyone could explain where it is but I've been in the boot for ages trying to find anything lol

Thanks a lot my friend that's very reassuring, I'll take a pic after work tomorrow and go from there. It does sound like maybe the cable as now it just constantly engages, so maybe the cables been put in a permanent position where it's always turning the horn on

No problem! I actually had the exact same issues as you the first time I changed a BMW wheel lol.

See the photo I circle below, those three screws, you over-torque them; you need to loose them up a bit, so they won't constantly make contact and unnecessarily set off the horn.

I've been down that road before, I guarantee this is the cause of your issue. Try it and report back.

When I accidentally locked my trunk, I connected the battery terminals (under the hood) to another car and that gave it enough power to open the trunk

This is fucking funny but anyway the trunk release can be seen here at the top of the image. It's triangle shaped and green/yellow.

That's USA-spec. Not available on the EUR-spec.

In Europe if you lock someone in your trunk and walk away they're as good as dead?

Pull the handles on the left and right to push the rear seats down.

So to confirm there's absolutely nothing I can do with an EU BMW To open from inside?

Call your dealership. They know the workaround (which, preferably, isn't posted publicly).

The workaround to open the trunk has already been posted by Poochie and samsamdar...

Connect a 12v source to the terminals under the hood. Does no harm at all and powers up the entire vehicle.

I wouldn't start the car like that, even if you could, but it's perfectly acceptable for coding and something as simple as opening the trunk!

I've started many dead BMWs, including Mini like that; the terminals under the hood are fused, so it won't do any damage, to any component, if jumped from under hood terminal but I heed your caution.
