question about the power windows

There are 2 things I've noticed with the power windows on my 228i.

I noticed that my windows does not one-touch go down or up when the door is open. but one-touch does work when the door is closed. Is that normal?

Another thing I notice is that if I crack the window a little bit (not past the point where the window goes down to clear the frame when opening the door) and then close the door, the window will go back up to the closed position. Do you guys ever experience that?

100% normal/correct operation.

alright that's good to know but I wonder what s the purpose of disabling one touch up/down when the door is opened though.

This is a DOT safety mandate.

One touch does work in other markets I believe, which is why that functionality can be coded.

sorry for the hijack but related to windows...i notice there's no window lock button. I'm getting the windows tinted soon and wish to lock the windows just in case a passenger (or myself!) forgets and tries to roll the window down.

Am I screwed? Is there no way to lock the windows?

There's no way, plus when you open the doors the windows will move, regardless.

Window locks are typically on vehicles with rear power windows where kids can get into mischief. I don't know of any coupes with just lockable front windows. I guess the OEM assumes the driver and front passenger within their view can be responsible for themselves.

FYI, my 2004 Honda civic coupe had the lock to prevent the passenger (and including myself) from opening the passenger side window.

There's always an exception! Perhaps another one or two out there, but unusual.

To be honest, for the 11 years that I've owned my Civic, I think I only activated that switch no more than a dozen times. Pointless is for sure and it's certainly one thing that I don't miss coming to the 2.

It took BMW "courage" to -remove- things for the better? Like, pretty soon there won't be a headphone jack either.

I've noticed that some tinting places have a warning label/tape that they put over the window buttons as a warning. You may want to consider doing that.

Hi Kevin,
I just tested my 2016 M235i and with the engine off but the power to accessory still available I can confirm I can in fact one-touch down but not one-touch up. Also if I open the window a crack (not enough to actually have much of a crack passing the rubber gasket) yes that it will close itself back to the fully closed position. I tested the window crack several times at different gaps and it doesn't trigger it when a certain threshold has been passed.

On the upside, all of the standard settings for this can be coded for adult use :P

I'll be tinting my 230 on arrival after my ED next month. Being my first BMW, what do you guys do about the windows rolling down when you open the door during the curing process?

It won't affect the tint if it's installed correctly - i.e., there is some tint below the bottom of the window into the door, and the tint was applied and pre-cured with heat on the window's edges. If the shop knows what it's doing, the only worry you'll have is accidentally rolling down the windows for 2-3 days after installation.
