Alright , now you made me look , and , No weatherstrip on either side . So I went to visit my local dealer and they had both of them in stock . No problem installing them at all.
I was getting dirty road water coming out of that front door gap causing the doors to get dirty way before the rest of the car

It's so inexpensive, cost is not the factor. The answer depends....do you like more tire/road noise or less? The parts make an obvious difference.

Yes. That's the real concern is whether or not it is noticeable noise. Right now it doesn't seem like tire and road noise is loud at all... But if it can quiet down the cabin even more than it is, would be better I guess

Yes, it is quieter with the seals, both for wind and tire noise. As was mentioned earlier in the thread, it also keeps dirt from collecting around the inside of the door.

I have a set on order. Having been a product planner at an automotive, I am fairly confident that these will have a beneficial effect. Basic product planning is to launch year one with the "best foot forward", year two is stable as engineering changes from launch year are made, and awareness/volume continues to build. But, it is also product planning 101 that cost reductions should be found and typically start mid-way through a cycle, such as year 3. For them to add cost and weight with "unsexy" parts in year 3 tells me these parts are addressing a concern and should make a noticeable difference in vehicle NVH.
So are these the correct part #?

Part info is:

Driver side: 51-48-7-300-693 Price: $23.63
Passenger side: 51-48-7-300-694 Price: $22.96

Cuz I'm oversea and hard to go dealer to check...

Yes. Answered in another thread but for those reading this thread, these are the correct numbers.

I got both sides from ESC tuning for 28.78.

I probably spent 30 min on the install. I found dropping the piece down was easiest with the door partially open. Then I used different door positions to work it in with a ruler.

I did a quick drive after. Less road noise and engine compartment noise.

Dang, reading this post more and more makes me want to just get it sooner rather than waiting for my first service appointment to place the order.

I just had these installed on a 2016 m235 convertible.

Honestly it's hard to notice a difference with the cabriolet but I would do it over again just for even a tiny noise reduction.

Here is the list of cars that this part was supposed to be on. Interestingly the M235i is not on the list.

Maybe the decision to delete the soundproofing was made by the same people who decided it was a good idea to introduce extraneous noise into the cabin via the ASD.

I can't decide whether that sentence was meant to be funny or not.

The M240 probably comes with the insulation parts because it's timing chain is on the back of the motor (unpleasant engine noise; scary design feature too) rather than the front like on the M235. The non-6 cylinder cars get the insulation because they sound like freaking diesels on cold start and idle.

I wonder if they ran short, and decided to leave them off the performance cars and convertibles, thinking they were loud enough already that nobody would notice?

I'd help you if I could but live near Chicago.

I've took the original posters pic, lightened up the shadows and made some other adjustments. Not a pretty pic (not much data to start with) but more functional as you can see better how it's supposed to look installed.

Slide it in from the top with. The door half open gives you the biggest opening. Then I used a 6in wood ruler to work it in. Vary the door opening as you go along to best access the points you need to at the moment.

Hope that helps.

Yup, was a pain in the arse installing the first door. Took about 15 minutes too long. Other side took 5 mins after. The trick is really to open the door gap to several amounts to maneuver your hand/prop in. I did it with bare hands and came out with all fingers intact. I definitely suggest to do it in a clean and well lit environment. Like, no rain on the ground etc and your car in a clean condition as you need to really reach down there at the bottom. Lastly, I have to be totally honest, I really can't tell the difference in noise. Maybe just me... but at least it's nice to know that space is now covered from road debris flying in and out of it.

Thanks, guys. I got it in most of the way but trimmed the bottom section off. Not sure if vert vs coupe makes a difference but it was way too long. Mine is a vert so I don't expect much benefit anyway TBH.

Has any other Vert owners done this? I would tend to think that it won't make too much of a change.

thoughts?

Candidly I'm somewhat disappointed how noisy our car is with the top up. We own two other verts, a Mercedes SLK (of course no way the 235 is going to be as quiet as the SLK, which has a folding hardtop), and an 11 year old Porsche Carrera, which has a very well insulated soft top.

Guess I incorrectly assumed the 235 top would be as well insulated as the Porsche given that they share the same convertible top supplier.

My guess is that in my case trying the door seals will be a wasted effort, but of course I would be interested in hearing the results should any other vert owner try the seals.
