F22 ergonomics
Finally had a chance to test drive F22-M235i Xdrive on Thursday and felt uncomfortable with the ergonomics. I found myself moving too far to the left to engage the brake pedal or I was just touching the very edge of the pedal. I came from a F30-335i and everything fit like a glove.
based on these pictures, it looks like the brake pedal is biased towards the left vs F30. Otherwise the power and handling is amazing and wished that I fell in love with the car. Anybody else have this feeling? M235i: F30: |

I think it may just be a difference in driving position more than the pedal. It's hard to tell from those two pictures because they are from slightly different perspectives.

Maybe it has to do with making the M235i easier to heel toe in 6 MT, and the 8 speed just kind of has to make do?

I have noticed this too. I'm coming from a Mustang and the brake pedal on the BMW definitely feels shifted to the left.
I don't mind it because in the past couple of years I've gotten into the habit of using my left foot to brake about 50% of the time. (It's an auto.) That might seem crazy to some but trust me you can learn and get used to it in just a few days with careful trying. Here in New York traffic is so dense that I prefer to have one foot over the brake most of the time. It can save me some useful braking time in an emergency situation. |

Traded in my F30 for an F22, I felt the dead pedal was a little bit to the left but that's based on zero science, hasn't bothered me with the gas or brake though.

- Power window switches are set too far back on the door - Temp settings on the climate control can't be set to be made in unison - Pre-discussed gauge issues (though general placement is quite good) - Stock speaker locations are blocked by other components (center channel: iDrive screen. driver's door: door handle), which affects projection and soundstaging - Lack of lumbar adjustment in non-power seats - Ambient lighting is too dim, even at highest setting - Lack of separate reading lights and vanity lights Overall, though, the interior design's quite good ergonomically -- particularly switch function design. The iDrive preset buttons and horizontal right-pull glove box latch are particularly good examples of that.

The only thing that I have an issue with ergonomically is that when I have the seat and steering wheel in the most comfortable position for me, I can't see the very bottom of the instrumentation cluster (can't read the mileage/trip odo without leaning forward) and if I bend my left leg, the door handle (the part you pull the door closed with, not the latch release) hits just under my knee and can be irritating.
I tried adjusting the seat/steering wheel height but I found this is as good as it gets. |

Luckily for me I have a sufficiently tall enough torso that the perfect seating (as low as it can go)/steering wheel position for me leaves me about 5-10mm of extra space below it from my line of sight.

I actually have noticed what you're referring to, OP. At least I think. It's only slightly disconcerting, I guess. Nothing worth griping about in my opinion. I just sometimes catch myself resting my foot right smack dab in between the accelerator and brake pedal but it is probably more to do with the way I position my legs. When I am evenly spread across the seat, it's fine. When I start to favor the door side, it feels weird when I am aware of my feet.
Maybe bigger people fit better in the seat. I can compress the side bolsters to the max and sit snug in the sport seats.

I have had mine for a couple weeks now.
Mine is 8spd auto. I was feeling the same with brake pedal being biased towards left than my prev car. I learned to sit a bit slanted to compensate for it...lol Funny how I did not really notice it while I was driving it on ED trip. I also agree that missing synchronized A/C temp control for driver/passenger a minor annoyance. |

The driver's seat is moved closer to the center console in the F22 than the F30. Certain people have suggested that the reason was so that could BMW could meet side impact safety standards.
If you watch the Motor Trend on the M2 they made a big deal about it.
