Not hate, but a minor gripe. Every other car I've driven has the audio volume control on the left side of the steering wheel, but this one's on the right. If I'm using the controller with my right hand to change tracks/stations, I can't simultaneously adjust the volume. A little annoying, but if that's my biggest gripe after seven weeks of ownership, I think I'm in good shape.

I had an 08 335xi as well, and yes the HPFP, injectors, coils, LPFP were also horrible in that car.
Experienced this same problem with my Gen1 Mazdaspeed3; swapped in upgraded fuel pump internals and it solved the problem of rail pressure dropping below minimum under WOT. For the life of me, I can't remember what that figure was, but it was consistently 1700+psi at WOT, afterwards.

The brake dust from these M brakes.. I've never seen a car generate so much brake dust!

Got my '14 228i MSport just 2 weeks ago as a replacement for my beloved '05 330ci ZHP, so the inevitable comparisons keeps kicking in. So far -

Dislike:

1. Poor side visibility due to tinted rear windows and A-pillars. Seriously, I have to turn and twist my head before every lane change.
2. Tiny petrol tank coupled with fuel gauge starting to ring at 50 miles left.
3. My red Dakota leather seats look great, but don't feel too high quality. The grain just feels cheap.
4. Can't un-dim auto-dimming mirror. In combo with tinted rear window, night rear visibility is really poor.
5. Can't play music from my iPhone through bluetooth or USB cable as I didn't get the tech package.
6. Turbo lag with auto. Bear in mind, this is my first automatic car in 20 years of driving, so it's a transition.
7. Garment hooks in the back are so tiny they're unusable.
8. Ergonomics of the door - I feel like the main handle is way too far in the front.

Like:

1. Value of the car. Got it as a lease return for a steal at only 7.5K miles.
2. Even with the turbo lag, it accelerates better than my old straight-6 ZHP.
3. Handles fantastically, even on most windy roads I've taken it so far.
4. MPG. I get around 22.5 city/highway combined, and I drive mostly in sport and have the auto-shutoff turned off. In my old ZHP, I was lucky to get 17. Of course, frequency of refills is about the same due to the small tank in 228i.
5. Hi-fi speakers are surprisingly not terrible, although I'l be upgrading them soon.
6. Blue tooth for the phone calls. I know, it's basic on cars now, but my old one didn't do it.
7. The general look of the car. It's not like anything else on the road out there, and it's a worthy transition from my ZHP, even if it's a tad smaller.
8. Did I say value??

Insane brake dust; only 800 miles in and my wheels are almost black with the stuff.

The steering; it flat-out sucks. No feel whatsoever and at times it feels likes it's lagging behind my input. Gotta say I'm coming from an E92, so the bar is high...

Otherwise, I just love the thing!

Not sure how you can blame the 2 Series for windows that were apparently tinted by the previous owner. Why not get the tint removed? Factory light transmittance is around 72% on these windows, which is industry standard.

That's the thing, I don't think it was the previous owner. I think it's the factory tint, which, in combination with auto-dimming mirror, renders rear visibility poor.

I coded the digital speedo on. This improves things a bit, and I use the CC a lot.

BUT it still shits me that I often can't see the speedo during the day on an 80K car!

My daughter's 17K Mazda 2 has a backlit speedo.

You can program Sport mode in iDrive to only do chassis.

It bothers me how many people don't know this. I'm a chassis-only sport mode kind of guy myself.

Its kind of a positive and a negative but I guess most of the rooms, including my bedroom, are close enough to my car that sometimes the trunk button is accidentally pressed. Since the trunk doesn't pop up I don't find out about it until I turn my car on in the morning and it says my trunk is open so I gotta get out and close it. I'm glad the trunk doesn't pop all the way up in this case because if I don't see it and it rains everything will get wet but still...its annoying!

I've hopped in my car a number of mornings to find the same issue!

Fog lights

I think the positioning of the fog light switches out of sight (for me anyway) is poor and potentially dangerous. Don’t need them often and when you do you don’t want to be doing it by feel or wondering which switch does front and vice versa. Ergonomic disaster.

This is puzzling as to why BMW chose this, my e46s had the volume on the left and the cruise on the right...
