I am always on the lookout for my future replacement car and these timelines work for me.

I must confess as a current m235i owner the information released so far on the m2 does not do much for me. I will just wait for the official release information and reviews to come out before passing judgement but I must say the most exciting news for me so far on it is this possible next generation information.

More power or 0 - 60 4 sec or less
More color options
Upgraded interior

I want to eat cake too.... for under 60k.

If you want some sways and m badges with a more aggressive flash from the factory. More power to you...

All you 2er dudes sound like this guy

Why would I need a girlfriend if I have an m car.
lol

by 2er dudes, you were referring to the M235 dudes, right?

I'm happy with my M235i, it is a fast fun car with good handling and if driven in a conservative way good has mileage. It is also quiet and comfortable on a long trip as well. It should't attract too much attention from the cops and the price is not bad for what you are getting. Basically it is well balanced car for an enthusiast without going overboard.

There are a lot of people that feel the M235i is enough. I would love to have M seats though, that's all I'd take from the M2. Maybe the M2 won't get M seats? If I wanted a track car then I'd definitely wait for an M2.

I own an M235i. I like it a lot. However, I previously owned an E90 M3 and that car was in a completely different league, as I expect the M2 will be as well. I am fully confident that a tuned M235i will never be as rewarding to drive or own as an M2.

Some of the kids here would be surprised how different M cars are compared to the normal models, but I guess 0-100 and power stats are more important these days.

Not sure whether to laugh or cry when reading some posts.

Just slap some M2 badges on a 240 and call it good, instant M2...it will happen. I might have to get another e92 and ride this storm out for a couple of years.

I'm just happy to hear of a m2 in 2018.

Time to start planning my ED.

Well technically you wouldn't even need to add badges. Just remove the "40" portion

And what did I tell you about selling the E92

I hate when you're right! Thanks for having my back. I just wasn't expecting it to go so soon. Dude made me an offer I couldn't refuse though.

Just watching the early Nurbergring testing vs the latest videos makes me think the M2 will be quite different from the M235i. Those early videos show a bit of the body rock that the M235 has, but the latest videos show the M2 absolutely pinned to the track.

Unhappy

As BMW announced in 2015 that the M235i will be replaced by M240i in 2017 with 15 HP more than the M235i, I hope BMW do not expect to sell a lot of 2016 M235i...

I know someone who was about to buy a brand new 2016 who deceided to wait and who knows what can happen in a year...

IMHO the wait until next MY behavior is marginal, hopefully for BMW

Sometimes you have to make a decision (lease end, professionnal expense rate change, ...) otherwise you never buy anything

I really don't understand why BMW feels that they need to keep increasing the numbers? What's wrong with keeping the 228 and 235 models? What's next, 245 and 260? Lol.

Buy now or wait?

Looking at MY2016 228i xdrive. Does anyone know what's coming with the 2017? Any changes to exterior or interior cosmetics? or just the new engine?

Hmm i got a weird feeling that the M2 CSL will come at the very end of the production cycle of the regular M2, After LCI is introduced they will announce a CSL version or a GT version of the M2 with only 100-200 made world wide witch will be stripped down NO AC, NO I drive functions like you get in the regular cars no stereo only wheels, chassi and a tuned engine and that's about it, Simply put a pure bred car for one purpose only to tear apart tarmac at the racing tracks.

Then after that we will start seeing New generation M's with combined electric engine and regular for even more HP and torque. Whilst also meeting the new demands from EU And carbon dioxide emissions for the future. So the end buyers will be able to keep buying M models without getting raped by the taxes on their cars and insurance companies.

But that's my gut feeling regarding all news lately about how BMW is evolving the brand to be more hybrids, they will probably keep the straight six considering its a very good engine type with a lot of customizations possibilities for the future.

But time will tell.

They already said no special versions of M2.

There was a time when they "already said" no 1 series M car.

Glad I didn't hold off on this one.. Seems like the current models will still be relevant for some time, which equals a long and happy relationship
