But I want a carbon fiber front splitter, blacked out grill, carbon fiber mirror caps, 19s- not settled on those yet- and slightly lowered. I think would look bad ass - as fast as M2, better fuel economy, quieter- handles as well as anyone would want (Lowered and 19 x 9 at the rear- a bit more grip than the 8's that are standard). All that would be slightly less than M2- but I want a sports coupe- not a "racing" coupe. No the M240 will never handle like the wider, lower, better suspensioned M2- but it doesnt have to - it will be perfect car carving up windy roads wherever you find them, but more refined without as much NVH. And I am going to throw about 2k of sound equipment in mine too- I like loud, clear sound and that small space can be made to sound good.

As someone who owned a M235i for over 2 years before picking up a M2, for me adding all the power in the world to the M235i or now M240i wouldn't make any difference to me. I absolutely loved those 2+ years with my M235i, but its the feel of the car's steering, handling, and feedback that the F22 platform will never be able to come close to vs the F87.

Yes the M2 does ride a bit firmer, but even with my back full of rods and screws, the ride quality of the M2 is perfectly acceptable and nowhere near as harsh or noisy as I was expecting it to be.

One other thing that BMW REALLY improved is the cooling on the M2 and that I'm not sure is something you would be able to easily upgrade a F22 to. I just swapped in my old P3 VIDI into the M2, and for the same kind of driving where my M235i would get the oil up to about 244 F, the M2 is only peaking at 205 F, thats 40 degrees cooler which if taken to the track would readily become apparent.

Also another strange thing with the M2 is that my insurance actually went down $10 a month while also upping my coverage, how that happened I have no idea, but I'm not going to complain.

Apparently, the M2 still has its share of cooling problems under hard driving conditions. Presumably as a cost-cutting measure, BMW decided to run that turbo outside of its efficiency zone under max boost. That results in fairly instantaneous, runaway temperature spikes which in turn reduces power. You can even see timing retard due to high temps on dyno pulls. The M2 uses the exact same M235i intercooler and will disable overboost on the track when it inevitably overheats.

The M2 is clearly a more focused car, no contest around a track. M2 posted a 3:01.9 on C&D's Lightning Lap 2016, compared to the M235's 3:07.2 posted in 2014.

But to bring it back down to earth, the M2 got humiliated by a $44k Camaro SS 1LE which posted a ridiculous 2:54.8.

The oil temps of my N55 engine are between 220 and 240 degrees F. I wondered the same thing about why they are so high. I found this article interesting: http://www.hotrod.com/articles/engine-oil-temperature/

I'm just talking about normal driving around town and getting on it from stop lights and stuff like that, not track driving or anything like that at all. The M2 will get up into that range if you are pushing it like its designed to do, the M235i will do that if you push it a little bit hard on the street.

Don't get me wrong, the M2 would be my choice now. However, the M235 has small tires in comparison to the M2. Throw on some 235/35s in the front and some 265/30s in the back and add a $300. set of stiffer springs and I think you might see the time differences narrow.

Exactly and I'm not even sure the springs would be necessary, just perhaps a few parts to add a bit more front camber. Also, throw on a basic tune to get the power somewhat level with the M2. I'm pretty certain you'd shed 3 seconds easily with those mods.

The M2 is a freaking awesome car (love to have one), but some act has if it's the Second Coming compared to the M235.

Lastly, VIR was a different track when the 2014 M235 ran it. The track has had some turn changes and it's been resurfaced. On average, it's about 1.3-1.5 seconds quicker now thus it's hard to draw comparisons from laps prior to 2015.
