I would hope the shifts are faster like XUTVJET found. Or is just a better feel?
Or is it just cosmetic?
Do the math and you'll see that if the lever a shorter in height, then it's throw overall will be shorter. The throw with this knob is most certainly shorter and you can feel it, but it's nothing too significant. I can definitely shift quicker now to better match my foot work with the clutch.

Install is easy. Squeeze the boot assembly to remove it from the surrounding console (30 seconds). Sit in the driver's seat, put the shifter into 2nd, 4th, or 6th, lean over the shifter closely with your chest close to the knob, grab the shift knob with both hands, and pull hard upwards in a steady fashion. The knob pops off easily. Take the new knob, press it onto the lever, seat the boot in the console, done.

The improved feel comes from the fact that the knob is more dense and hard. It also results in mild audible "snick-snick" on shifts.

Did anyone ever reply about separating the M Perfomance knob from the alcantara boot? I want to keep the OEM leather boot and put the CF knob on, but have read the CF and alcantara boot are glued? Has anyone else done this?

There's a video on YouTube on how to do it on I believe an E90, but it's basically the same process. Gotta break some tabs, but other than that it looked pretty straightforward. I may do it as well since the alcantara stands out a bit and it's a dirt magnet.

I know this is an old thread but just saw it.

I installed the ZHP on my Z4M and LOVED it. Haven't even picked up my new M240i yet but the ZHP is one of my first planned installs.

I'm seeing two styles of M Perf shifters for the M240i. The carbon fibre one and another that has a silver knob and blue / red stitching which I think would look better with the silver trim in mine. Has anyone installed this one or know if other than color if it is different length weight than the one folks have been talking about here?

I like how it matches the interior but I've never really liked the shape or feel of it.

I really like what WAKEMCS did!

I believe this illuminated shift knob you posted is offered by iND

Here's the OEM BMW part:

I really dig this. Can you give more details? Who wrapped the shift knob and how hard was it to adapt it to the boot? Thanks.
