Help, engine air filter housing broke

This part snapped off the engine air filter housing while changing the air filter today. It was a clean break, and I tried, unsuccessfully, to super glue the two parts back together, holding it in place with electrical tape as it cured. It didn’t work. Before I do anything else what is this part? Does it take air to a sensor or the engine? Has anyone else had this experience? What is the fix? Is it possible to rejoin the parts with an epoxy? Thank you for the assistance.

I don't have an N55 but that looks like a PCV or fuel breather line based on the connector.

Can the long "snorkel" portion with the broken fitting be separated from the air box? Maybe you can find it available in the classified section from someone upgrading or parting out their car.

Part #s can be found here:

The "lock" (broken fitting) is $7-8 but I don't know if you damaged where it attaches to the duct.

Good luck!

Same thing happened to me this weekend changing out the air filter. Disappointing quality. There’s a shiny residue on the separated parts and I believe these components were epoxied together from the factory.

I used Loctite plastic epoxy bonder ($7) to rejoin them. Seems to be a very strong bond. Will report back in a while with long term results.
