Question on Warm Up Time......

My M235i, I notice that its takes longer to warm up when you turn it ON. The RPM starts high, the sound of the exhaust is higher, then the valve in the exhaust open (or close), sound tone down and when the car completely warms up the RPM drops down.

The time that took my car to do all that used to be shorter. I was just wondering if you guys have any idea what probably change on my M235i.

Did the outside temps go down?

I dont mean to be a wise ass....its really hot in texas in the summer and a 20 degree drop in temps can make a significant different in warm up times for lots of vehicles

It used to warm up quicker in the middle of the winter here in Texas. This is not a recent phenomena. Its being doing this for sometime now, I just didn't put too much emphasize.

I'm just curious now if this change in behavior is due to some sensor, valve , etc. that is not operating adequately and causing the issue.

slow warm up is something that can be caused by a themostat or equivalent being stuck open allowing coolant to freely circulate through the entire coolant loop instead of restricting it until whats IN the engine actually hits a certain temp

I cant put my hands on it right now but iirc in the engine forum there was a detailed diagram of coolant loop/pump(s) etc and sensors that might help you
