Interior Noise & Rumble

I've owned my M2 since Oct 2016, and prior to that I owned an E46 M3, I love the M2, it's handling, how capable it is, the power, I could go on. But there's one significant thing it doesn't have that I truly miss about the E46 M3, being best friends with the engine instead of feeling like i'm in a stressed marriage and me and the engine sleep in different beds. It feels like the engine is 'over there' instead of 'right here'. To me, it's the one thing the M2 is missing.

Was wondering if anyone has come up with their own way of improving the driver 'spiritual' connection to the engine? I'm thinking of getting Dinan S1 w/ a resonator delete hoping that it will help the cockpit feel. But no one's reviewed it in those terms so i'm not sure if that will fix it.

I've contemplated taking insulation out, but it's pretty invasive, hard to put back once you've done it, and i've no idea what the payoff would be. I've taken out the rear bench to see if that makes a difference and it really didn't do anything very noticeable.

Any ideas? Thoughts? Am I insane?

DCT or Manual?

Sorry - mobile app does not show the profile like the web.

So...
I'm NOT trying to turn this into a DCT vs. Manual thread... and....

I feel so connected to this car - the engine is always there and the marriage is perfect. And I have a manual.

Not sure if that is it, but maybe try driving one - and I never owned a E46 M3, but did own a E36 325, 540ia, M5, X6 50i, and 1M and with the exception of the M5 and X6 50i, they always felt "perfect"

Yeah, I understand that. My M3 was SMG (Regretfully) and it didn't feel lacking in the spirit department in the same way the M2 does.

If I were to actually go for a trade-in to swap to a manual i'd probably just go for a 1M altogether. I really enjoy the DCT box, i've put 15,000 miles on the car in 10 months or so.
