I thought of heading there tomorrow but it's still 3.5 hours driving for me... But Franzino did. And there might be a couple of EU delivery, German/Benelux/UK etc guys who already did? Cheers Robin |

There are many ways the numbers on the ring can be fudged. Tires. The wherewithal of a company who can book the entire day and close up the track from the public. Driver with balls of steel.
I guess I should have been clear why I posted what I posted I was merely pointing out that the screenshot being provided showed the Civic was faster on the ring - despite being slower pretty much everywhere else. I don't doubt the M2 is a fun car - but to criticize the performance numbers shows a lack of understanding of what makes the car so irresistible. |

and a Toyota gt86 will run a 9:09 on the 'ring. Anybody that can't break 10 on the 'ring in a GTR should not even be allowed to drive. |

Anybody with any knowledge of statistics and data collection will know to take Nordschleife numbers with a huge chunk of salt. If you're saying that you can compare two numbers from two different drivers, what you're saying is that driver skill doesn't actually matter and environmental conditions don't either.

There're too many manual m2s out there doing track and drag times which should be significantly slower than its DCT counterpart and is very much effected by driver skill.

I've never understood one thing about the people looking at "Track Times"
The cars best lap has been achieved by a 'Professional' driver that is probably 'most proficient' in the type of vehicle or brand. Chances are 99.5% of owners won't even get close in matching the track lap time, so why bother giving it significance? The data surrounding track times is just basic "My dick is bigger than yours" marketing bs. |

I would assume the golf R just because awd is inherently easier to drive at the limit.

M2 is way better balanced than Golf R and gives more than a lot of confidence. It doesn't bite you if you're a more experienced rwd driver I must say. But for a novice driver, Golf R would be alright off course. I think that's what you mean? Cheers Robin |

Want a more focused ring tool, then take your M2 to some of the tuners,Lightweight,Laptime performance etc and they will build you a quicker M2.some good videos on YouTube Nurburgring Btg.
The M2 wasn't focused on lap times like some other specials we are seeing with the hot hatch market, but could be wrong?? Want a quick 0-60 or ring tool,Nissan Gtr is a good all rounder, but I find them boring after a while, hence getting M2. Taking my M2 to the ring later this summer, really looking forward to it,had my old 1M over a few years ago and only done 2 laps, one dry,one on a soaking wet track and didn't really grasp the feel of the car on the circuit.done a few laps since then,so hope to have a better experience next time, last time was in my Tommi Makinen Evo,hope the M2 is as quick and as fun |

The MK7 R's can be very quick, I wouldn't underestimate them. Guys are running in the 11's and 10's in the 1/4 mile with relatively little mods. They also handle pretty decently considering the limitations of their drivetrain.
Having owned the MK7 R myself, the biggest downfall is it is a boring car. This is the big reason I didn't even consider the new RS3, I figured the driving dynamics would be similar but with a nicer engine. I do not regret making the switch at all. As far as straight line acceleration goes from a roll my manual M2 feels about as quick as my R when it had intake, downpipe and JB4. Throw in some turns and it is no contest on which is the better handling car.

Really m2 performance reputation has been ruined by those manual drivers.
Stop testing manuals without having a pro rally driver in place, please.

TLDR, but I have driven both an M235i RWD and xDrive and they were both faster than the Golf R and my brother's S3 (essentially the same). I find it hard to believe it's faster than an M2 around any track unless tuned/modified.
