Those that have installed the M Performance lower sill blades

Those that have installed the M Performance lower sill blades:

1) Silly question, does the fatter/wider end of the blade sit towards the back of the car or towards the front? I want to drill once

Back. Once you put them on it's pretty clear how it goes.

Also I'd suggest 1/8 x 1/4 aluminum rivets instead of the supplied plastic ones.

Thanks. I tested fitted them and oddly, it appears that they can actually fit in either direction, at least when holding them up to the sill. Of course the BMW directions are totally non-specific about direction and the DIY on here no longer has the photos because Photobucket sucks.

NP. Easiest way to tell is the extra little piece of tape goes towards the rear.

Ok, just so we're clear here, when we're talking about the "wide end", we're talking about the very end of the blade. Correct? If so, yes, that is the end with the extra piece of tape.

I really wish these things were labled.

That's how I installed them, yes.

One item of note even if you do go with the supplied plastic rivets I would still HIGHLY recommend spending $5 on the 3M adhesive promoter.

These must be able to be mounted either way because this DIY (photos now work) show the double taped end installed at the front fender.

Ha maybe mine are on backwards then! To my eye they looked better w double tape in the rear so that's how they went on. Would be funny if I somehow added lift - not that I think these are anything more than cosmetic.

I test fitted both ways, both looked ok. But then saw a pic of someone else fitting with the extra tape forward and went that route. Neither way is wrong IMO.

Just don't mount them holes out

I just got mine and they came in separate boxes with different part numbers for left and right. The extra tape in front is the correct way.

Very late response on my part. I installed the blades installed a couple weeks back. The install was easy. I installed them with the two tape piece side behind the front fender. Install was very easy and I followed the noted DIY. I taped them up, drilled the holes, and inserted the OEM rivets. They are holding very tight.

I wish they were a little wider and obvious as they are very hard to see and even harder to depict (see below). In the end though, I really wanted them mostly to reduce rock chips to the rockers which they should be effective in doing. They're cheap to buy as well so what the hell? They didn't junk up the look.

Looks good. Do they have a painted finish? In the picture they look grey, maybe it's the lighting, though.

Matte black. Ind will paint for you but it gets pricey.

I’m thinking I’m going to wrap mine in carbon vinyl. Install was very easy, 20 minutes a side if you affix them with the double sided tape first and then drill the holes second

Between inability to know which end is up, and the fact that they are essentially undetectable, I think I'm gonna pass on these babies ...

The boxes are marked. I put the boxes on the correct side and there wasn't an issue.

I just held them up both ways and picked the direction I liked better. I really doubt these do anything beyond cosmetics so pick whichever you want. My car has not gone airborne at speed due to my backwards aero package.
