Special Orders (M240)

My order was accepted at the factory about a month ago and I received a build number. I don't have a production date yet. Does anyone have a general idea how long it takes to get a build date after the order is accepted and how long it takes for the vehicle to arrive at the US port of entry after its built?

that seems like a long time. Did your order include anything "special" ? That will slow the order process.

Call your SA and ask why. Perhaps they don't have an open allocation slot at this time. Maybe your order placement missed the end of last months allocation.

I believe it all depends on the slot your dealer received. I placed my order on 3/27 and build started on 4/17. So your wait isn't that crazy. If you call BMW with your production number they should be able to tell you what week the build will start: 800-831-1117.

After it's built it can be about a month-6weeks to get on a boat and to the dealer, sometimes longer.

That seems about right...the dealer in Farmington Hills (I see OP is in Oakland County) was able to deliver the car 8 weeks after the order was placed, and about two of those were pre-production. They had an allocation ready to go.

You're still ahead of me... I put my deposit in exactly 1 month ago today at the dealer. Still hasn't even officially been ordered. Going to be stopping in there today again. Its the 7th of the month, they should know by now if they have an allocation yet or are still just stringing me along. Anyone know when 2019's are hitting production???

I ordered my M235 in early December 2015 and it was delivered to me in Kansas City in early February 2016. No bad considering the distance and Christmas plant shutdown.

I have been searching for a 2018 allocation to replace my M235 convertible, but they are hard to come by. Dealers are telling me 2019 should start production in July.

I'm also having trouble finding one. Really messed up my plans. Ordered a car 3 weeks ago and still don't have a slot.

I'm not sure whether your location impacts availability so I guess just sit tight. My dealer told me today my production date is May 22nd. The toll-free number at BMW could only say it would be in the second half of the month. So I'm still waiting, too.

I ordered my M249 20 January 2018 and it's currently as of 7 May 2018 on the train to the port. I'd gotten such a good deal for it I think the dealer thought he could string me along until they got an allocation. Expected to be here late June.

Placed my order for an m240 April 30. Dealer told me production won't start till end of June early July. He said there is going to be no production for this model for may and some of June. Can anyone confirm this?

I don't believe production is stopping. Just to confirm, are you saying that you got a production #, but the car won't be built until June? If so, that sounds about right based on my experience. I placed my order mid-March and received my production # the same day, but the car wasn't built until 4/26.

Otherwise, if your dealer doesn't have a production # for you, they probably don't have an allocation and probably think they can get one for you in June.

Our cars may have been production line buddies! IIRC, we had the same build week (week 17) and as of today, my car is now at the port.

I did not get a production # when I ordered the car April 30 so I called the dealer yesterday asking when it would go into production. That's when he told me BMW wouldn't be making any for all of may and part of June. I found this a little odd so I asked why not. Dealer told me BMW wouldn't give them a clear cut answer. I'm just going to assume that the dealer can't get allocation until the end of June/early July.

Let the wait begin.

I hope that's not the case. I just got my production number yesterday, a month after placing deposit at the dealer. I received no indications that it wouldn't actually enter production until July. In fact, they told me it was headed to production Monday. But I'm losing more and more faith in my dealer each day... Gonna be pissed if it sits around for another month and a half before entering production.

Same boat here (figuratively and hopefully literally) with week 17. BMW told me based on my wait time at the port so far they would expect it to be on a ship and out by end of the week but couldn't guarantee anything.

I have not had to sign anything on my last 2 cars when I ordered. They didn't even take a deposit.
