I think it depends on how many places the ship has to "stop" and drop car off - IIRC from a previous delivery, some ships stop a few places in Europe before heading this way.

I was thinking it takes about two weeks to physically get across the ocean, but then there is time at the port and time to get all the way to the dealer.

Totally understand what you mean about the tires too. :/ I didn't want to put the winters on at all but I might have to do it for a month or so. Sucks !

Nice of your dealer to do that - take both keys so no one is out driving your new baby.

I just contacted BMW and found out my 228i left port on the 7th and arrives to the States on the 17th on the vessel Endurance. (I tried looking it up, but apparently it's a popular name for ships so I'll be spared the agony of checking the map every day until it gets here). Either way, excited to get the car. I'm hoping that they don't hold it up in customs for very long once it gets here.

LOL. I recall a ship full of Volvo's and BMW's going down in the North Atlantic a few years ago. Supposedly it was full of M3's and M5's at the time. A quick google search yielded me this:

I remember the same thing--there were so many dudes that were dying on the forum because the cars were swimming with the fishes!

Can you imagine? That would not be a good day...

Do you have your production number? If so, your SA should be able to give you a decent picture...

the BMW owner's circle gives you a decent approximation as well..,,,

So unbeknownst to me, apparently when you order through BMW military sales, there's no way to track your build. The production number they give you is unable to be tracked in the system on the website. From what I've been told, the only update I'll receive is when BMW assigns a VIN to the vehicle. Anyone have any other means to track the build?

Yes sir, I am on the VOLANS LEADER, which is supposed to be at the Baltimore dock (I think anyway) on Saturday.

This is the toughest part!!!

That's interesting--I had not heard of that before in regard to military sales.

Does the production number they gave you provide any info on the owner's circle? It is usually a week or so behind reality, but it also better than nothing in my book.

I am pretty sure that your SA would have the most up to date info possible, which would include what ship your car ends up on. Once you know that, you can search for ways to track it...

Hell yes! is your car going all the way to Minnesota? Or did you order it though a non-local dealer?

I am picking mine up in Baltimore--dare I say within the next couple of weeks !

Well that's nice for you--no long drive like I will have.

My dad and I have made it a sort of tradition, and it has become fun for that reason, but I can't deny that getting it at the local dealer would be much easier.

I believe that is correct--in that the ship only leaves when it is full of cargo. One of my previous BMWs sat there for almost two weeks--which was just luck of the draw. It missed a boat that left roughly a day before the car arrived at the dock, and was forced to wait on the rest of the ship to fill up as a result.

It looks like it takes about a week to 10 days to get across the Atlantic. My guess would be an additional week on top of that if your car has to cut through Panama to get to the West Coast.

The waiting drives you nuts though.
