The speculation is that it won't be limited. The circumstances that led to the 1M being limited just aren't present here. I've already had one dealer refuse to take deposits on the M2 because they weren't sure if the car would be limited or not.
hopefully it'll come with the ceramic brake option. Very fun car by the projected specs.

Agreed it just seems a bit dumb!

Only 7hp difference means that they were pretty damn close. Based on what you say, I would actually trust AutoBild.

If they are marking up beyond msrp, I bet there will be good deals on the current M3. Sorry BMW dealers but I'm not paying over MSRP for a car.

The M2 can be sufficiently differentiated from the M235i by options, performance and price, so that there is no need to drop the model.

Despite all that, I would love to be wrong and the M235i to be discontinued. I then own a limited edition!
IMHO it would be daft to drop the M235i.

I don't care about the debates of whether or M badge is being abused (M sport badging all over since the E36) but Audi, VW, Seat, Mercedes all have a sub top of the range differentiating moniker.

Audi S and RS
VW GTi and R
Seat FR, Cupra, Cupra R
Mercedes AMG Sport, AMG

To make a model more plain named in the face of such competition would be a backward step in terms of visibility. I know it's just an M badge but it separates the rest of the model line with the top of the standard range model. Immediately it looks a bit more special.

I love to see so much speculation based on a media publication's speculation. At a time where BMW is adding models and not canceling them I would find it hard to believe that the M235 is likely to be cancelled but then again that is just speculation on my part.

Receiving praise from my pregnant (at the time), wife and extremely sensitive father in law.

I hope they still offer the firm fixed suspension for the rest of us. I think they M2 should fill a niche for those of us that want something edgier and more focused. All the new BMWs are already adjustable and soft already, not sure what is gained by making another one soft or gadgetized. There is a gap that was only partially filled by the 1M due to low numbers. I think they should let you check all the gadgets you want including built in Hookah, massaging seats with whirlpool motion and air conditioning. Mood lighting, Bidet, 32 speaker surround sound with 24 inch 3D display in front of the windshield BUT give you the option to leave all that stuff off to make it light, nimble, focused, edgy and with some real freakin' sound a la 1M.

That's my two cents worth.
amen

How about this: drop the M235i and replace it with an M230i running a ~300hp B48.

Edit: just saw ynguldyn's post above. I can see the rationale in that too. I just figure since they have the 300hp B48 coming for UKL's possibly we'd get it in an F2x too. I guess maybe we'll have to wait for late Gxx timeframe to get a longitudinal 300hp B48.

I speculate that this articles speculation on the M2 is no more speculative than what we've been speculating on here for months.

Yes, @ynguldyn appears to have heard through the grapevine that the M235i will be re-engined (B58B30M0) with start of production in July 2016 as "M240i" (see his informative post: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showp...99&postcount=1). So the current M235i will be 'replaced' by the M240i:

F23 - same as F22, but with EOP 10/21.
[...]
Production dates for M2:
EU/UK: 11/15 through 10/18
US: 3/16 through 10/18
[...]
All re-engined F3x models will get new designations:
4-cyl B48 engine will have 330i/430i designation instead of 328i/428i
6-cyl B58 engine will have 340i/440i designation instead of 335i/435i.
PHEV F30 will come as 330e, not 328e.
[...]
Same designation changes I first announced for the F3x will apply to F2x, so we're going to get 230i and M240i.

They could at least have shown the render by Harold Wood (Dec 2012) (http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showp...10&postcount=1) as that one features the /=\ central intake shape (M cars) instead of the \=/ central intake shape (M Performance cars).

Though still an end off base of what's it gonna be:

Not sure if some are .. but wouldn't the one year run of the M235i just be called a 235i afterwards..? And any special version, a 235is ..?

The limited run M235i was a performance version of a 235i.. really not hard to understand, or place.

What gives..?

It does make plenty of sense to keep both the four and six cylinder models for the duration. I hadn't seen the updates to his thread that confirmed that though, so thanks for the link.

Have to say though, that it would have been nice to see a high output I4 in the 1 and 2 before they move to UKL and give up RWD.

Especially since the rumored high-output I4 was cut from the M2. Would be cool if BMW found a place in the line-up to put this engine.
