Seriously? Consumer Crap?

They know nothing about cars. Period.

They do make Michelin PSS run flats. They're similarly priced to the Bridgestone RFTs. That's most likely what's on this car.

They simply group cars by category like SUV, sports coupes, small cars etc.

CR does this sometimes…pointing to unlikely comparisons between products in different areas of the spectrum. I'd guess they are mentioning it because:

-The M235i is the new kid on the block
-The new kid debuted at 2nd place in it's 1st model year (!!!)
-The 235i scored higher than any BMW of all time
-It got better scores than Europe and America's most storied sports cars of all time (911/Vette)

There's a lot to herald here. Another angle they used for comparison can be seen here:

"While the Corvette and 911 both “pack more punch” than the M235i on the road, the latter car comes relatively close and provides more comfort."

I absolutely look at Consumer Reports for used cars. They have detailed lists showing problems areas to look for or best values at certain prices and the data comes from surveys from people like myself that get CR on line and answer on line surveys about the cars we own. They are spot on regarding used car problem areas from everything I have ever researched. Owned several Toyota SUV's and they absolutely nailed the quality and also problems like I had with a Mini. For a used car I would trust them over any other source, not on fun to drive , not on handling or power but quality issues/problem areas.

Glad I got one when I did as well. I feel like this car is going to blow up. A couple things they dont understand while testing the car - that you would understand when using it on a daily basis. Great review though.

If nothing else this does a lot for resale value IMO. YOU may not trust their reviews on cars but plenty of people do and a 98/100 score will definitely make it easier to sell when you are ready to do that.

Very True. I dont plan on trading her in for 2 or 3 years, but hopefully this will be valuable resale material.

Sorry, but you missed one; previously rated 135i at 97 and FORGOT to test 1M which is the one that really would have scored 100! BTW, their score on the TESLA looks like the fix was in; the negative comments they made on it would normally have gotten a car down to 90...Then again WE don't really care what they think except maybe the reliability data.

I so wish there was a 4 door m235i. That, with a stick and lsd, I would need no other options, and be happy to drive it for a decade.

The 135i scored 97. I fail to see the reason for the excitement.

It's really not when you check a few boxes on the build sheet. And resale value sucks on base model BMW's. Take a look for yourself.
The 228i is a great car too, but they both add up very fast.

Inartfully stated on their part, but technically correct.

The 2 Series base condition is the 228i. That base condition has RFT standard. The resulting lack of a spare tire well precludes the opportunity for a spare for any model derived from this current configuration of the platform, no matter what variety of tires is fitted to the wheels.

However, once one gets to the M235i model of the 2 Series they tested (or 228i with Track Package), Michelin PSS are included. They are not RFT, therefore the need for the inflator kit.

BTW, bimmerzone is working on minispare kits (jacks/tools, etc) for the standard and blue caliper brakes for 228i and M235i, which can be less intrusive when stored/tied-down in the trunk.

I could go through all of those menus, or I could just hit the "Rest" button on my center console.

The 135 was originally given a score of 97 by CR in 2008 if I recall correctly. It was one of the ways that I justified my impulse buy back then.

"The M235i has 20 more horsepower than the 135's six-cylinder and is considerably more refined, while maintaining almost all of the fun of that earlier car".

"Handling: At any speed, this car feels light on its feet and ready to dance all night. The electric power steering is quick and well weighted. If it feels just a tad artificial compared to the laser-like 135i steering, BMW is clearly getting better at making this bit of virtual reality more lifelike. We don't think most drivers will complain".

I hope you're not trying to rain on the parade of excited current and future M235i owners out of insecurity of what you have in your garage. The 135i is a great car and pedigree worth noting but if we are comparing d*cks here I noticed that your ride is a convertible. Any argument that you specifically might have regarding handling goes right out the window (or soft top) so let's play nice here and just let everyone enjoy the news.

haha. That escalated quickly.

I really dont see how the convertible argument matters in this context. BMW knows how to build a good vert. The 135 vert is great and I would assume that the 2er vert will also be excellent.

Theres no need for anyone to belittle anyone here.

On a side note I see that youre in Charlotte. Did you come out to see GRC races when we there last year? If not you should come this year! Were there in a month at the Dirt Track.
