Dealer allocations

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I was on the waiting list at my dealer for a m235 allocation with about 3 other people in front of me. Being one of the largest BMW dealerships on the country they said they would most likely get around 3-4 allocations right away when I went in the other day they had told me now they only received one and will only be getting one per month does that seem right compared to what other people are hearing?

Motorwerks? They're big surely, but I highly doubt they are one of the largest in the country.

That's pretty surprising since those are the only two dealers in the cities.

Did they say anything about 228s?

Yeah this kind of blows, I'm not willing to pay sticker or even close to it, so that itself might rule out a custom ordered 228i for me in April/May timeframe.

I want $3k off sticker or as close to that as I can get and clean trade on my current car.

The 1 series was selling 500 a month in the US or 6,000 a year. 6,000 divided by 350 dealers means the average dealer sold 17 a year or 1.5 a month. I'm sure they expect to sell more but that number included convertibles so allocation certainly will be an issue year one.

Doesn't sound like any profit maximization business model I'm familiar with..

My dealer is getting 1 allocation per month. I'm #2 on the list.

Where are you coming up with that $3K figure? Seems like a lot on a new model that is just being released?

If they start discounting like that right out the door, that would likely lead to a poor resale for the 2 series. Was it the same with the 1 series?

Coming up with that figure based on the fact I refuse to pay sticker or near it on anything that isn't limited production and instantly collectible (e.g. Boss 302 etc). I'm not going to walk into BMW and pay $40k for a 228i, I'll pay absolutely no more than $38k and if they won't take it, I won't buy one. It may be a new model, but it isn't limited production, nor is it special; it's just a run of the mill car. I don't think $2k-$3k is ridiculous at all on 40 grand, it's not like I'm asking for $7k-$8k off. Will they take that in May? Probably not but we will see. If not I won't be waiting a year to order, I'll be going to Ford and picking up a new Mustang GT for much more than $3k off.

I don't need to buy a car, but BMW needs to sell one.

bmw doesn't need to sell the car either. They have plenty of people willing to wait or pay sticker. I doubt their worried about people leaving them for a mustang

I believe that minnetonka is getting an m235 within sometime in January or early February as for a 228 no idea

I guess you're one of 'em.

Yeah, I'm an idiot because I don't fall over myself to pay sticker like a fanboy. The notion of calling someone an idiot because they aren't willing to pay sticker for a run of the mill car and will take their business elsewhere is truly asinine and uncalled for.

Idiot??...LOOK IN THE MIRROR!

BMW MAY not worry about it...Your opinion not mine

I have one eye on the M235i with it's ridiculous price with all the goodies and the other on the S550...Anyone who does not shop around, especially in this price range, is a FOOL or a FAN boy of-->Look at me, 'I'm driving a BMW'.
