2018 M240i dash fuel gauge needle

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Has anyone else noticed that the fuel gauge needle on the 2018 2 series lights up brighter than the speedometer and tachometer needles? It is the same whether the needle is light up in white or orange colors. Maybe the brightness difference is because the needle is physically closer to the clear plastic the covers the entire gauges display area than the speedometer/tachometer which are set farther back from the clear plastic cover...

I am surprised no one has come up with a color fading LED type system for the fuel gauge needle. For example when the tank is full, the needle is green, maybe even the whole fuel section of the gauge cluster. As fuel is depleted it fades to yellow then orange then red when it is low. Maybe even starts soft blinking when the 50mi warning is tripped. I think that would be cool, get a lot of information about fuel level at a glance but I am sure someone would deny it due to aesthetics.

I should patent that. Nah, too lazy.

Speedo and tacho have no illumination under normal conditions unlike the lower gauges, which is why you cant see the speedo/tacho when driving through shaded areas even in daylight. It really bugs me that they cant light the speedo/tacho without having the lights on like Ford, Audi etc.

Mine's definitely brighter when red, hadn't really noticed if it is when white but I'll be surprised if it isn't

I thought the 2018 was a digital display (or close to one) or am I missing something?

Yes it is digital but with an analog appearance, and the fuel gauge "needles" are brighter than the tach and speedo "needles"

Ah ok thanks for the clarification. Sounded at first like they were physical displays haha
