Golf R 400

Apparently this car is confirmed for production and will be revealed this coming September. HP estimated to be about 400.

You guys think pricing will be over 50k? Is anyone even interested? I'm a bit intrigued but would probably stretch for an m2 granted their isn't a production limit.

I'm intrigued just for curiosity's sake, but I have no interest in buying one. Any word on if this will be available in the US and with a 6 speed? I'd guess it'll probably start in the $40k range since the GTI is in the $20ks and the GolfR is in the $30ks. I'd still prefer an M2 even though it won't have 400HP

The current R tops out at just under $40k, so I would expect realistically they'd probably try to keep the new car just under $50k. $45k or less would probably be too close to the Golf R for comfort.

Though to be fair, if you've ever been interested in VW's you could easily have bought a Golf R, thrown on an APR stage 3 kit and been at 450whp pretty quickly.

The GTI is a great car, but I lump it into the boy racer STI/Evo camp more than I would against any of the Germans.

For the money though the GTI is a ton of fun on its own. I would rather buy a stock GTI, chip it and have the money left over for beer if I wanted something fun and practical for the money.

Agreed. In the U.S. at least, the Golf definitely qualifies as a boy racer.

That said, this might be a solid DD if you had the likes of a boxster spyder in the garage for weekends.
