What is correct or doesn't it make any difference
No adhesive...essentially held by friction when stuffed into position.

Not a part of the door. Stuffed into the space between the rear of the front fender and the base of the A-pillar.

Had those weather strip installed on the convertible 235i and contrary to other convertible owners, I can tell there's less noise coming from the two front wheels. Mostly noticeable on roads with gravel or debris, where the noise of the flying debris onto the inside wheel arches is much less.

Worth it but still doesn't make the convertible quiet though. Still plenty of other squeaks and rattles to keep me company.

EDIT:
Most people have agreed that the seals have decreased noise in the cabin. The seals are available for as low as $9.45 each.
Left side part- #51-48-7-348-779
Right side part- #51-48-7-348-780

Many have reported that there are other part numbers coming up in a parts search. Order the ones that you like, but the seals with the part numbers listed above will work for the coupe and I assume for the convertible.
My '17 M2 did not have them. I bought them and installed them a couple of months ago. My take? I notice absolutely no difference.

Just did them now. On my drive home I noticed between 0-10 percent difference. At least I'm not out of pocket much. I may take a second to at installing to see if I can get a better seal.

Same as me - no appreciable or noticeable difference.

I installed them. Their added weight was more than the amount my wallet got lighter. Acceleration is now slower.

Perhaps most interesting outcome of this thread is the range of reactions....some (myself included) found a noticeable reduction in road noise...others find no change. Imagine being the engineer who has to decide whether to go ahead and provide these parts or not!

No haven't placed an order yet. Frankly because I don't want to pay for shipping. I'll buy once I reach 50 dollars and free shipping

I bought these months ago, but haven't installed them yet. Anyone have a photo of where exactly they get installed?

Shows driver side with the strip, and the passenger side without for comparison.

Cool, thanks. Pics won't load for some reason while I'm sitting at my local watering hole. I'll check again when I get more reliable WiFi.

They basically get stuffed in between the fender and the door jam frame. Very easy install - nothing holds them in besides friction.

Did you observe any difference after install?
I doubt they are needed, since others (that's also my case) reported that they don't have them on either door.

I couldn't tell a difference. I wasn't concerned about sound, but I had hoped they might cut down the amount of dirty wetness which seems to infiltrate the door frames especially after driving in the rain, but no such luck. Didn't notice any difference in sound either.

It would not rise to the level of "need", but the fact that somewhere an engineer was assigned to create such an usual post-launch part suggests they had feedback or their own assessment that it was helpful and desirable.

Reports have varied, with some noticing a difference and others, not. I happen to notice a difference in road noise (not wind), but explanations as to why some do not abound, from differences in sensitivity to presence of other sounds, potentially from differences in tire tread.

Not necessarily.
They may have made the part available only to pacify OCD customers.
And don't forget the placebo effect, which is definitely real.
Or, it could be an easy way to make more money, so why not? Just like the myriad of BMW branded accessories.
What's more telling to me is the fact that BMW engineering removed it completely from their later models runs. My 2018 does not have any such trims on either side.

Considering the length of time this thread has been around, I'm surprised no one had gone scientific and used a sound level app on their phone to measure the before and after sound levels.
These apps are not really too accurate but would show a difference if there is one. The actual value may not be that important only the fact that there is either a significant improvement or a marginal one.
I guess if someone was a real keener he could remove and re-install his set to do the test. Would be interesting to see the results. Could be they are just dirt stops not sound barriers.

There's no app to measure the placebo effect.
And that is all that matters - if you think the problem is solved, it's solved.
