interior rattle
It is a bit disappointing that our 2 series come from the factory with quite a bit of interior rattling. my month old M2 has a subtle but frustrating rattling behind the driver side dash that get triggered over bumpy road. it is a very thin metal rattling noise, but i couldn't pinpoint down where it comes from.
Where do you have rattle in your 2? what are the common rattle spots on these little BMWs? Thanks! |

I keep thinking it's the right (passenger) front strut or perhaps some heat shielding?
But neither were the culprit. Like a knock/rattle. |

After 25k miles my car developed a cracking sound in the driver's side A column going over bumps. My car has been in the shop for three weeks. They finally located the problem, two bad spot welds on the roof and now they are tearing my car apart to fix them.

I knew from the Mercedes Benz Club of that same problem afflicting a W212 E-Class.

BTW, never had a rattle on my 2003 Z4 (which I had for 6 yrs) and never had a rattle on my 2008 128i cabrio (which I had for 7 years). So much for "rattle spots on little BMWs".

I've got a rattle in my passenger side door panel when going over rough road, but only if the window is up. If the window is down, no rattle. I know the approximate area where the rattle is located (can make it rattle by tapping on the door panel). Car only has ~700 miles on it, debating on whether or not to bring it to the dealer to have them sort it out. Last thing I want is more rattles after they take the door panel apart.

I don't have any rattles, but I have two spots of creaky plastic. One is the switch assembly on the driver's door. When I push on the door in the vicinity of the switch assembly to open the door, the plastic in the area creaks. The most annoying one though is the creaking from the steering wheel. The two large trim pieces that sandwich together in the area below the airbag/horn creak when I push on the steering wheel during certain turning situations and especially when getting in and out of the car (I use the wheel as handle). I'm not a big guy either (175lbs).
I know I can fix these issues myself, but I may make BMW look into it first at my first oil change. This creaking certainly takes away from the quality feel of the car but I also know BMW's history for creaking plastic LOL |

I've owned five over the years and no creaks or rattles. Lucky I guess.

When I picked up my car driving home there was a squeak coming from the passenger door, so I reached over and bopped it on the handle and 4k miles later it hasn't came back.
