m235i jb4 confirmed

Just spoke to terry at BMS. Confirmed that n55 jb4 transfers over to the m235i. Also released a intake.

So the N55 jb4 says 60 hp increase over stock. Since this tune was produced for the 300 hp engine, do you think that means we will get the ability to produce 360 hp or 60 hp on top of the 320 this engine already produces?

Very awesome news! I was expecting to have to wait a while for some tuning solutions to be available, so the sooner the better.

Yes should be 360 I believe. I have a jb4 on my with 135 with a performance power kit ok it so it makes 320. When you have the performance power kit (which the 235 technically has) the boost is upped to max out higher than stock. With the jb4 this number comes up a bit more and as a result more performance is extracted. So yes it would be 60 on top of the 300.

It will be identical for both. 360

This was bound to happen. JB4 + Intake + Downpipe = one really fast coupe...

This car will be a rocket...I'm really looking forward to it...

I think I may be pulling the trigger on one fairly soon. I just want to test drive a 6spd and can't find one in the state of Florida.

What does a JB4 go for these days? Had one on my N54 but never the N55.

And have they progressed to a OBD-plug in yet? I always felt a little crazy getting into the ECU....

"All of our F3X products carry over including the JB4 and intake."

Hopefully this also means their N20 tuning works as well. To approach 300hp without the additional weight of the M235i would be mighty sweet!

Came here to ask this. the X28i tuning options seem to be nonexistent from the "usual suspects" (Cobb, Dinan, etc)

Does this device support getting a custom dyno tune done as well or is it simply plug and play and that's it? Coming from a few Subaru STIs I'm used to doing the AccessPort and using Cobb maps for basic stuff, but then having a ProTune done for better gains and driveability. Is that something that's possible with this?

I've had a few e-mails back and for with BMS in regards to the JB4 Stage 2. You do have to tap into the ECU. It is suggested that M235i's run MAP 2 to start according to BMS due to having higher capability than the standard N55s out of the box.

There is a custom tune map but I'm not sure how much is actually editable, it does have USB and laptop software to tailor your own boost levels with expert help of course. It seems like the guys at BMS and the amount of support they give is top notch and the prices are more than fair for what they offer. I'll be ordering a JB4 and Intake to start as I figure out what I'd like to do on the exhaust front.

i actually ordered the jb4 stage2 and an intake. from what i've read MAP 2 is for higher boost and is suggested to be used with higher octane 93+, with supporting mods. Unless they changed the maps around, I have heard people staying with safe MAP1 or adaptive MAP5

We'll probably need some clarification from Terry, but directly from BMS I have someone telling me that MAP 2 is often ran by 135ers out of the box and that map1 for us will net very little results due to our motors pumping out more power stock. I'm not sure if this is due to us running higher PSI than the 135i's or other tuning done to the engine.

I am reading the Fxx thread by Terry as well where it says 93 octane so unless stated otherwise I'd definitely be careful of map2 until we hear it is officially ok.

I wish somebody would make a nice install video....

The instructions are kind of confusing as they are all mixed up for Stage 1 Stage 2 etc... and even the videos say it skips steps sigh...

why can't they just make a video step by step for Stage 1 and one for Stage 2... same for the pdfs... come on I don't want to follow 6 if then else ... just make separate pdfs for each one... damn

The N55 435i Install is pretty straight forward. I agree on the video though, they really need to do one start to finish with the new N55s. Too bad BMW didn't use traditional ECU wiring so we can make undetectable clips for the ECU. I'm still looking for the best way to T into the ECU so I can take it in for maintenance with a 15 min uninstall and not worry about them finding it, then again I doubt the guys at the dealership would pull the ECU out with OBD port diags.

Depends on if you count splicing 'cutting' the short answer is you have to splice INTO main harness ECU wires for the JB4 STG2 to work. The STG1 is all plug and play with no splicing. The picture below is the ECU harness that you have to tap into for the JB4.
