That's the difference between American and European horses: ours are a bit stronger. The article quotes the numbers in PS, and 192PS=189hp.

CO2 emissions are proportional to fuel consumption. That's basic chemistry: gasoline is the only source of carbon in the mixture.

Basically, the article confirms what I said, to the letter.

New model intros and LCIs are the more attractive points for that, because there's a lot of new engineering outside the engine. If that's the case, we may see some models like F10 and F15 stick with N engines for a while. US 328i is likely a different story: BMW is more cautious about new tech in US cars, so it's possible they just want to burn in the higher output B48 before bringing it here.
Well, the Z4, 5 Series and X3 all got the N20 before their LCI. N55 similarly found its way into some cars before LCI, though I'd have to search to know which ones. There are probably others I am not readily recalling as well. Going back a bit further, the E90 also got the N54 for its second model year, and it hit the E60 before its LCI too. It was the intro of the E92, yes, but that just shows how what effects one model can spin off into another related one. The fact is these things happen somewhat routinely.

By the way, I can't even think of the last time BMW introduced a new engine in a model elsewhere while holding off for the same model sold in the US. Perhaps it just isn't clicking.

Quote:
On the other hand, it seems BMW no longer cares about power numbers as much as they used to. There's no pressure for them to do so: the market is asking for less pollution and fuel consumption, not more power. Look at all recent model introductions: with the exception of N63Tu, all new cars come with really modest power bumps, but much better mileage and lower weight. I won't be surprised if B engines' focus is also on efficiency and not power.
At the same time, there is a real threat from 3L V6 turbocharged engines from Audi and Mercedes (read on C400 and other *400 models coming soon), as well as naturally aspirated 3.xL V6 engines from Lexus, Infiniti and Cadillac. I strongly suspect that BMW will make a move soon since these 335i competitors are all above 300hp now and some are likely to hit 350hp before the end of the decade.

Interesting, too, that the N63Tu update you mention did put BMW back ahead of the class (excepting only the brand new S Class with 455hp). Is a move for the 6 cylinder engine possibly close behind? We all know BMW could make best in class power from the turbocharged I6 if the market calls for it.

You make a good point with regard to efficiency and emissions being of prime importance now, but customers expect those things along with increased performance. And the industry (not just BMW) has largely been able to deliver on those demands.

Quote:
And here's my evidence. however flimsy (still relying on the old VIN search results, even with that F82 thing, there's nothing better still):

B38B0M0 will be used in the new Mini Cooper and the 316i LCI. Mini Cooper was listed in the VIN database as having 100kW or 134hp. The current 316i is 134hp.

B48B0M0 will go into Cooper S and 320i LCI. Cooper S was listed with 140kW or 189hp, while the 320i has 180hp.

When the new Minis are out in a few weeks, we'll know for sure.
Not sure exactly what you mean by evidence, but I definitely don't dispute those figures (they're either spot on or very close for sure). Nor do I dispute that models in the Mini brand get power level increases somewhat rarely, and when they do they are not very significant. For BMW, and more specifically, for the hotly contested segments that make up BMW's bread and butter, the bar is higher and leading in performance is considered part of the cost of doing business.

Never having purchased a new release through ED, what is a range under the MSRP that one can expect? I've seen a reference to the invoice on ED being 14% under MSRP, is it possible to see so etching close to that(10-12%) range or would most dealers not budge on the posted 7% discount? Would really like to order the m235i pretty soon, but don't want to get caught up in inflated prices post new release.

Quick Photoshop with some HRE P41s.

One of the things I DON'T like about the new 235, is the poopy wheels it comes with. (Never liked them on the F20 either.) I've always thought of a multiple split spoke wheel--the type 22, type 39, type 220, etc.--to be "classic M3". (And lots of people have been mentioning that the car is KIND of a spiritual successor to earlier M3s...) So when I pick this car up, these are going to be the wheels going on. Make things a bit more classy & sophisticated, and kind of a tribute to the E36, E46, & E90.

Also adjusted the tint a bit, to get something more like Imola red, rather than the less flattering (in my opinion) Melbourne. Was really disappointed with the lame color palette they gave this car. BMWs dealer lots are already BORING AS HELL. Just a sea of monotone... Blacks, whites, silvers, greys. I wish they had the balls to do something exciting for the 235... Something that would aesthetically echo the idea that this car is actually FUN!!! (BMW really HAS to stop trying to be like Audi and MB, already!)

Where's Dakar yellow? Imola red? Santorini blue? ("Heritage" aside, I think it's a better color than Laguna Seca.) Java green? Even though it's going to be one of BMWs cheapest offerings, the 235 could have been a real showroom traffic-generating, budget halo car! Tell me a Fire orange 235 wouldn't bring people in like gangbusters, to see what's up? Ah well...

This may be ridiculous on my part, but does anyone else find the m235i seats to be a little bit ugly?

I wish they could have done something like the S4 as well as the new m4. Fixed headrest type deal.

Outrageous, but still worth noting...

there might be the chance that BMW offers new performance seats (and hopefully for the USA).

But I agree. I am really annoyed. I love the seats on the CLA45AMG (albeit they cost 2,250), but I would be more than happy pay for them..

Wonder how different an m235i with BMW LSD, m performance suspension, m performance exhaust and a non factory tune would be from an m2?

Thinking aesthetics (front end intake/hood power dome, side gills, quad exhaust pipes and bigger fender flairs), weight savers (carbon fiber roof, aluminum panels), wider track in the rear and an MDM traction option with EDC as a possibility.

I like the car but the wheels are terrible. They need to be more aggressive.

Does anyone know if the m235i comes standard with the led headlights and premium leather or is it an upgrade? May be the only upgrades I need.

Ya you are right. I think the premium and led options will push the m235i out of my range I am afraid. Wife would kill me if I brought home a 50 plus thousand car, haha. 228i loaded up it is.

You won't have to worry cause there won't be an LED option. At least not until LCI

No led option? I must have missed something. Even the 128i has that as an option

The 128 had xenon headlights available as an option. LED head lights have never been available for the 1 series, as they are a recently new feature available on the 6 and 4 series.

Xenon should be standard on the M235i just like it is on the 135i and 135is

LEDs? Wishful thinking. Hell, I don't think even HIDs are going to be standard on that car. Hopefully I'm wrong here...

Looks like BMW is taking a page out of Porsche's playbook, making options of features that are standard on $25k cars from Korea these days.
