Hi all - I submitted for ED with my dealer a week ago yesterday and got an email from him late last week with a "production number". He said I could go to bmwusa.com, create an account, plug in the number, and track my car. Well I did that last week and got an error saying it didn't recognize the number. Been trying it every day since then and still getting the same message as of tonight.
Has anyone else had this same experience? Am I just being impatient? Here's the message I'm getting: "Only new vehicles can be added by production number. If your vehicle is currently in production, it is possible it has not yet entered our system." |

I have the same issue. I don't think it is possible to track it online until a few weeks before they start building it. You can always call the BMW hotline and enter in your number. Mine got recognized, but there is really nothing to report at this point. I guess mine will be one of the first ones to be built in MY2016. I estimate they will start building it the 3rd week of July.

Ahh great! I called the 1800 number and the automated system told me my vehicle was scheduled for production with no confirmed production date yet. So at least I know the number's legit. Thanks for the advice.
How long until a production date is scheduled? I haven't confirmed an ED delivery date yet, so maybe once I do that they'll schedule a production date? |

I've had a confirmed delivery date for about 2 weeks. I was given a date just a few days after placing my order. I don't think they inform you directly of the car production date. They just gurantee that it wll be there at the Welt for pick-up. I needed to know if the delivery date was real so I called BMW, she assured me that my car would be delivered on the date and that I could make travel arrangements.

Search the forum someone posted instructions for how to save the 800 number, your production number and all the menu selections as a single phone number so you can one touch dial to check status.

I seem to be at the same point. CA gave us the production number about 2 1/2 weeks ago. The website does not yet recognize the production number, and the 800 number does recognize the number but just says it has not been scheduled for production yet.

I also have a production number that isn't recognized yet, haven't tried the 800 number. My CA did say that production is scheduled to start on Aug 3rd, several weeks before my ED date of 8/26.

So..... I have a production number that is still unrecognized by bmwusa.com with the following error:
"We're sorry but the vehicle you are trying to register is not available at this time." Which is a little worrying because when I call the 800 number it tells me that my vehicle is scheduled for production on July 3rd (two days ago). I'm also confused because I've ordered a 2016 and I thought they wouldn't be building 2016's until after the summer shutdown. Anyone else having a similar experience? |

The shutdown and production schedule I was referring to was out of this thread:
http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1134312 But I guess I'll just be happy some progress is being made, even if it's a bit unexpected. The waiting is way harder than I expected though... |

My 2016 went into production last week and is scheduled to be completed this week. The only shutdown anyone can reasonably predict is August when I believe BMW gives all manufacturing employees a few weeks vacation at that time. Other than that, no real shutdowns within the same model code (E90, F20, etc.) since tooling doesn't really change. A company the size of BMW has their raw materials ready for each change well in advance of production. If they didn't their supply chain management would break down every year and cause serious problems.

1. the bmw website is garbage. It NEVER recognized my production number, even 10 days after my 2016 had finished production on June 30 and is now at the port waiting for a boat. Once I finally called and talked to a rep and got my VIN, I entered that instead of production number, and now I can't even log into the site at all! I'm getting a message about esigning a document that can't be bypassed even if I check the "agree" box. Endless loop of nonsense. 2. I tried to order a 2015 on June 13th and the dealer told me I had to order a 2016 and if BMW's crappy system is to be believed they are already rolling off the assembly lines, and have been for a while now. At some point I'll call but it isn't exactly a pressing matter. It's just annoying that the functionality is offered, yet so far completely non-functional. I'd be happier if I'd been told "be patient, we'll call you when the car arrives" instead of 'hey, register and give us your email and you can see cool vehicle production and tracking info!' Total waste of time |

UPDATE: according to rep, the issue is with production numbers / VINs for 2016 vehicles. IT is aware and is supposedly working on it. Good to have an answer at least.
Even better news. my car is now on a boat and in the English Channel. |

I was experiencing the same issue that zentanker was having. I also inevitably broke down and called BMWNA on Monday and was subsequently escalated to their IT dept who told me they would look into it. It's now Wednesday and I just tried and was able to log in without any problem.
Not sure if others are still unable to log in but that's what worked for me. |
