BMW Floating Center Caps installed

The new g20 3 series press material launched their new floating hubs. I added them to my x3 and like them. It helps my ocd a great deal. The ones for the 2 series have finally been launched and I install them today. Interestingly, the ones for the 2 series are larger than the ones on the x3. It's one of those things that is so subtle most people wouldn't recognize it but going down the road looks fantastic to a watchful eye. Here are s few pics and a link to a video I made of them in motion (or not) on my x3.

Part number: 36122455269

That's a lot of money to spend on something that 99.99% of the population will not notice. I had to watch the video 3 times to realize what it was lol I think a better thread title would be "floating center cap" and not hub.

There are currently two different sizes offers and have different part numbers. The ones that fits the 2 series is listed above. I got mine on eBay for $80 including shipping.

You are right although I think enthusiast might notice. It is nice to walk out and see the bmw lettering upright on all 4 wheels.

for anyone in the UK these ones on ebay fit the 2 series
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Brand-New...72.m2749.l2649
BTW BMW websites recommend they should do the installation
Save your money - all you need is a thin flathead screwdriver to ease off the existing hubcaps and the new ones just pop on
a 2 minute job, if that, for all 4 wheels

You mean floating center caps? Wonder how long before they lock up from either bearing wear or brake dust/dirt contamination?

It's a nice touch IMO, for some it may not be worth the $100. But yeah, I can't imagine that these things still spin freely after 2-3 years. If they do, good job BMW.

With so many other completely useless add-ons having no practical value, it is fascinating that this one seems to irk people so much.
My own personal favorite useless add-on is carbon fiber trim. How many horsepower does that add, especially per dollar spent?
Or what about a noisy exhaust for thousands of dollars with almost no performance return and great nuisance value?
Yet I have never heard a whisper about the value of these.
Floating whatevers are cool, especially on a Rolls-Royce.

That's an excellent way to scratch your wheels, best to remove the wheel and pop the center cap out from the rear. More work but much less risk of damage.

A piece of duct tape folded over on itself or a suction cup, both used with a “snappy” pull, are good methods to remove the stock centre caps without removing the wheels.

or put a piece of masking tape on the screwdriver
Thank you but mine were easy to get off - no danger of slipping, but it was a very thin screwdriver

I have never made a cosmetic modification to any vehicle I have owned over 50 years. There is a natural tendency for people like me to look down on others who buy luxury cars mainly to be seen in them rather than for what they can do. Modifications that make their cars stand out have a definite logic for them, but provoke eye-rolling in me. Yet I am a small minority and by some definitions I am the abnormal one, so I try to restrain my contempt for the majority.

Lol... I have them... And for one reason only. When parked, my controlling personality (other words for anal retention, lol) enjoys seeing the hub caps aligned and the emblem right side up! Really no biggie either way. Just a novelty!

I ceramic coated them when I winter prepped my car and had the wheels off (coated them too)... Subtle little differences some notice, some don't, and some do things for others to notice, and others do it for themselves. I fall into the latter category and don't really need affirmation from others for what I do, or have done to my car(s).
