I think people need to stop comparing the M235i to full on M GmbH cars. The M235i is NOT a BMW M product by any means, really. It's an M Performance vehicle, just like the M135, M550, X5/X6.

It's got an M badge!! Is it the new e36 M3? Or the new 2002 turbo? Oh hell, is it the new black?!

Thank you! It's heavier than the 3 series as well. I don't get the fuss about this car. It's a glorified 135i.

I had the opposite reaction. I was all giddy to drive one until I did. To me, the car was a huge let down.

I also had the opposite reaction when I saw the car. Too "sleek" and it looks too much like everything else on the road these days. I'll keep the character of my 135is, thanks.

I love the e36m and e46m (which i own) but these comparisons are only good to start debate.

This 'fake M' would smoke both of the above cars around any track at a DE. Since 99% of consumers won't 'race' their BMWs there is no sense bringing up how easy e36s turn into potent track cars and this is a fat pig.

The e9x non M cars def feel a bit bloated and soft and the f cars feel even more bloated to me. I love driving our 135i on V3s, and I bet the 2 feels as good or possibly better in most scenarios.

I sure hope an M2 happens...

In GS class, I bet Turner, Fall Line, etc. will still run the E92 M3 next season (maybe another two seasons).
yes. exactly. they will develop one and run them alongside each other and switch once the new model exceeds the other....My point being that is only a matter of time.

Comparing APPLES TO APPLES.... (developed chassis to developed chassis)... There has not yet been a subsequent model, that.. after development... turns out to have LESS performance than the prior model.

But it is crazily disconnected and uninvolving compared to the E36. 99.99% of this forum is not a race car driver, not even a weekend driver. Competitive racing such as those described have nothing to do with the argument. People should connect with what speaks to them the most and is the most fun. Most people on here don't--as, by nature, this forum is primarily about buying the latest and greatest. Does not mean it is a better driver's car. It just gets better lap times. That's a big difference.
Well yes.. LAP times. Is there ANY other way ?

Anything else simply IS completely subjective, and not objective at all!

As far as being a driver's car...or subjective FEEL while driving.. ... the chart goes in reverse.

E30 > E36 > E46 > E90 > F80

The E36 is a pig compared to the E30 and handles like such in comparison. Each subsequent model.. has generally felt more cumbersome.... and a little less connnection with the roadway.... while ultimately having more power, more grip, and faster lap times.

False, not in the USA. Also it has the horrible linear springs like the last year of the 135 had. Its soft and fat.
