New Order Fees

Hello all,
I am about to place an order for a 2015 228 x drive but I have one question. A dealer who was willing to sell for $500.00 over invoice now stated that there is a fee for the full tank of gas plus the prep work to detail the car. I have purchase many new cars over the years and was never charged for gas or the detailing involved with getting a new car ready for delivery. Is this customary with BMW or are they trying to be sneaky to re coupe some money from me?

Thanks,
Uncle V

Sounds like BS to me.
I'd find another dealer.

I'd hold off before dismissing as 500 over invoice is a pretty good deal. It really depends on the rest of the deal. All of what they are talking about is dealer markup, so yes, it's profit for them, but at what point do you walk? At $700 over invoice? That's lunacy.

I'll still walk...nothing worst than dealing with dishonest salesman, if he cant do $500 than just be straight up and tell you they can do $700 over invioce instead of this gas fee BS

Thanks for the replies. That is what I thought. The other side of the issue of course is the low balled my trade. They did however use Edmunds pricing which was fairly accurate. Now I have another problem. The other two dealers I'm going to visit stated they use MMR Manheim auction pricing which more than likely will be much lower on the trade. I just can't win here! I wonder if anyone on this forum has dealer auction access to manheim data so I could get an idea of how much they will offer me. These two dealers are pretty far out of my area to drive to.

What a freaking charmed existence you guys live... I had a salesman e-mail me after a week of d*cking me around, to where I finally had enough and made a deal somewhere else: "Thank you for wasting my time."

THAT kind of BS I won't put up with. A salesman trying to make money off a sale? Imagine that. These guys should be put against a wall and shot.

OP hasn't even mentioned what that fee is in dollar amount. Maybe it's an $80 prep fee that the dealership imposes on every sale and the salesman wanted to let the buyer know before actually placing the order. For $80 on a $500 over invoice deal, principles can go to hell. That's a deal. You guys need a reality check.

Do you have a Carmax nearby? They usually offer you Manheim value in my experience. I would start there whenever selling a car just to get a no hassle baseline.

If the dealer is close and your trade isn't horribly low I'd just get everything in writing and go with it after trying to push back on the fees. They're all shady when it comes to what you're being charged for, what's for free etc. at the end of the day it's all the same pile of money regardless of what they're calling it. Tell him you'll pay the fees but want floor mats and a trunk liner which you'll need anyway and it's all the same at the end of the day.

Yeh if you have a carmax nearby they will value it using Manheim data. I have no problem looking it up for you as I have it on my phone.

When I started to deal for my car I initially concerned myself with a deal close to invoice, maximum value for my trade-in and to work over the internet.
And I wasn't having any fun buying the car.
So I started visiting showrooms, talked to salespeople I liked, decided on a dealer trade-in for my old Mercedes and made sure my OTD price was good and didn't feel taken if the dealership made some decent profit.

I'm just waiting for my car and don't give a second thought to price or build.

Please don't email or post snapshots from Manheim; it is in violation of your company's subscriber agreement and licensed for certain business use and purposes.

i was charged for gas but only 90 dollars (every dealer charges for the full tank in canada i believe for brand new cars) and everything else was included getting the car ready.

Congrats but you still paid more than $500 over invoice. It's about getting a deal you feel good about and that's all that matters.

It's a legit fee, but it's still a fee. Just like MACO even though some dealerships don't participate, so they don't have one.
