Difficult Decision
So a couple weeks ago I sold a 2010 Jeep SRT8 loaded with 38k miles. I absolutely loved that thing but after test driving the m235i I just had to get one. Placed the order that day and it is supposed to go into production next week. Got the M235i estoril blue, auto, premium, tech, cold weather, and harmon kardon audio.
I miss that jeep so much it was an absolute blast to drive but hopefully this ride will equal the fun with better MPG (was getting 9 - 11mpg average). Thoughts? Good trade or silly decision? |

Totally different vehicles. I think that if you don't need the room and capabilities of an SUV, you'll be perfectly happy with the the 235i. IMO once it's delivered and you drive it again you will be glad you made the right decision. What you're going through right now is called cognitive dissonance, or buyer's remorse. It's completely normal so there is nothing to fear.

Haha thanks for the support, just needed a little free therapy
I did all the research for months prior to pulling the trigger I just am a car guy and this is def a big change. I think its also not having a nice / fast ride for at least two months is killing me. I am sure I will fall in love all over again sometime in June hopefully..... |

You "absolutely loved" your Jeep and it was a "blast to drive" - and then you order a car 2 or 3 times the cost - and you're not sure if it going to be as much fun.. Cars are an absolute waste of money. Don't buy one until you really need one and/or are absolutely sure you're getting the one that matches your needs, wants and finances.

Actually the jeep SRT8 is a more expensive vehicle when new (at 65k +) than the m235 and is a 470 hp/ 465 ft lb monster. Apples to oranges comparo. The M235 will be a much nimbler little rocket, better around corners, etc. A more pure driving machine - I think you will enjoy it. Congrats

Despite the best intentions of most here, there is no answer to be found from others. The question is only for you to address based on your priorities and how they match what each vehicle delivers. Which one best matches your wants and needs? That is the only correct, albeit subjective, answer to your own question.

Two different cars
I am sure you will have a great time with the bmw, the jeep is good compromise between practicality and speed on the street but the gas mileage alone would be a deal killer unless you have a lot if stuff to carry around A friend has the new one 2013, and he is tired of getting 9 mpg

Thanks for the replies guys. No need for the utility of a 4 door, I am in my 20's. I have a dog but he can cram in the bimmer if needed I'm sure. Price wise they are the same. 48k for the jeep in 2009 m235 about 50k. I like the fact that the jeep was so flashy with the big rims and huge sub in the back but the performance is about the same in these two vehicles. I think I will have more fun in the canyons with the M235i but I was running 4.5 - 4.6 0-60 and low 13sec quarter miles in the Jeep an it just plain felt violent. Guess I was kind of asking performance comparisons and are you guys having fun in these cars even though they are kind of under the radar?
PS that Jeep was the absolute worst thing I have ever driven in the snow. Spun multiple times in Denver and Mammoth. "AWD" but the big fat slicks in the back were a joke and no snow tires would fit the wheels.. |

It was not the Jeep. It was the tires. Cars don't skid....tires skid. Proper wheels with proper winter tires would have been quite superior in the snow.

I had a cts v and it was a big heavy v8 sedan over 4000lbs and in the corners you felt the car working extra hard, now i am of the opinion of light and fast, after my tuned 135 only thing light enough would be a 235 or a new m3
