1st mod added P3Cars gauge
Directions were from the F20 and video from F30, removing the vent was OK. rebuilding the vent was a challenge, they are backwards, it was like looking in a mirror to their directions. Took about 45 min. to figure out, but works as advertised. I got the Turner version that adds 0-100 & 100 to 0 timers.

Thinking about going with the Bluetooth OBDII plugin and Torque phone app instead. I always have my phone so just deciding a good place to mount it in the car will be the challenge.

Please do, I have been looking into the OBDII as a simpler alternative as well and it seems like the most effective mounting place would be in the vents. I wasn't sure, however, if those mounts work as advertised.

Best you can do re. available temp output is coolant temp (I think) but I use DashCommand with an OBD2 wifi scanner and iPhone and I am sceptical about the accuracy of the readout, it seems to run very hot.
My iPhone is mounted in a Belkin cup holder mount (when it's not in the snap-in adapter in the center console). The cup holder location works very well for all standard phone functions but it's too far removed from the driver's eyeline and the display is too small for it to be optimal as far as engine output data display is concerned. If it really mattered to me I would have to place it higher and closer to my in-motion driving FOV but that would probably require a suction mount. |

Using either Dashcommand or Torque Pro - both with a simple BT ODB-2 dongle - I'm totally able to read both engine coolant and oil temperatures, as well as the gear box oil temperature. I did a through test, and indeed the coolant temperature is running rather high (up to 115 C) while cruising in the city and with hot ambient temperature (almost 30 C) - but once at a highway speed, it goes down to the 90-95C range. It's completely compliant with the N55 documentation.

The P3 version I have has oil temp. I needed to request a new control chip from P3 though and instal i myself (just a 10-pin wafer plugged into the circuit board). Works like a charm.

I ended up ordering mine direct from P3Cars and it does have oil temp. Can't vouch for the Turner version.

Do you happen to know from what point that oil temp started to become standard in the p3 gauge?
