M235i, 16 badges say it's an M car. We (Road & Track) say it's not.

10 things you must know about the BMW M235i. 16 badges say it's an M car. We (Road & Track) say it's not.

http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-revi...2014-bmw-m235i

The M235i is not an M car

The badge says "M," yes, but the M235i is a replacement for the 135i, not the 1 Series M Coupe. Though it’s fast as all get-out (0–60 in 4.5 seconds in our testing), grips like the dickens (thanks to Michelin Pilot Super Sports), and stops like an M car (five feet shorter from 80 mph than a competition-package M5, for example), it’s not involving enough to wear an M badge. Much less 16 of them.

Yup, 16. One on each wheel, one on each brake caliper, one on each doorsill, one on each front fender, one on the steering wheel, one on the trunklid, one in the instrument cluster display, and—perhaps the most egregious of all—one on the plastic engine cover.

Interesting read. I'll pass on the M235i. I'll wait for the M2.

Thank you for pointing out. But most are well aware that this is not a full blown M.
The article has been out for a couple of months.

your Dad's 135i M Sport actually had 8 maybe 6. None were on the exterior rear deck lid or front fenders. A no no as per the M forum guys.... just sayin.

And you have ///M Motorsport stripes over you avatar picture yet you drive a non-M 135is. Shall we all get on your case too? I think not. This topic has been beat to death.

Yup. They're there for ///Marketing. People see a reasonably priced BMW with M badges, and buy accordingly.

Props to BMW for figuring out how stupid people really are.

sigh... it's an M perf vehicle not an M car...
You would think people would have gotten it already.... like the M550d etc

you have regular BMW - M perf - M cars.... get it?

And there is going to be more of them so start getting use to it....

I'm pleased to hear this news. As an M235i owner. I'd hate to be associated.

Why is this concept so hard to understand for some idiots. Audi has S and RS, Cadillac has V and V Sport and on and on. Someone needs to go to college and take a marketing class or get a job with a consumer goods company and get their head out of their ass. Mercedes has AMG and Black series so every fricken brand with any smart people are doing it. Hell even Subaru with WRX and WRX STI. It's no more confusing than any other brand that has their shit together.

Am I gonna be the first person to actually comment on the article and Road and Track's writing? I have but one thing to say... it is obvious from their review and statements that they have never driven an e36 or e46 M3, made very clear by numerous statements that just sound straight ridiculous when talking about the performance and sound of the M235i.

Good job, guys. You just made yourselves look like dumb, uninformed trolls.

I do think Audi is the least confusing, especially since they dropped the multiple engine options for the A. Aside from the S-Line trim, it's all pretty cut and dry.
