Anybody thought about buying GoPoint bl1 or bt1 that plugs into scan port and wireless sends whatever data you want to your iphone or android? It's like $120 but not only tells you about any error codes but it will live stream engine temp, coolant temp and a ton of other stuff and it's right there on your phone. Seems like the easiest solution.

I just got one for like $25 on Amazon. Pairs up with the Torque app (Or others, but Torque seems to be the one people prefer). Only used the free version so far to test it out because my current car had a check engine light, and I wanted to check it out before we trade it in.

Just used it the first time a few minutes ago, worked like a charm.

This one is android only, but here's the link.

I had a BT1 and just downloaded dash command app $10. BY1 was $100 from Amazon. Will post more after really testing. Really interested in the logging part.

Edit: looks like oil temp not available on this unit. Coolant works. Logs can be emailed, but not in csv format - just the app's format. You can replay logs in the app. BTW, on a quick trip to the store my temp settled in ~220F

Added shot of gauge screen with values while car is running. Will need to play with it more. Maybe I picked the wrong oil temp variable …

I read somewhere that with other recent model bmw's the oil temp doesn't get passed up through the odb-ii port on these cars so it may not be possible to get that working. Don't quote me on this, it's just what I vaguely remember reading somewhere.
