A possible upgrade
Test drove the m235i today and thought this car was awesome. I currently have an e92 328i and couldn't believe how much the cars have advanced in a short period of time.
Honestly right on the fence to upgrade and purchase this vehicle as my DD. However, struggling with justifying the cost of 58K CDN. Anyone else think this pricing is a bit too premium? |

For me the 235 is a bargain...my 325xi was $40k with options and that was 9 years ago...fast forward 9 years this car is only $3k more. Yes is apples to oranges but the 235 is so much better than the 325

BMW prices have really jumped since 2006, every year they keep getting 4 digit increases. When I look at the cost of options on the 435i and compared them to the M235i, the 2 was a better deal with all the options. Many other reasons why the 2 is better IMO as well, but from a price point it was the clear winner.

Considering the standard equipment on the Canadian car, I thought it was a bargain. Especially compared to the rest of the BMW line.
OTOH, I think the option packages are overpriced. So I got the base car + paint, lumbar support and storage pkg and was out the door for a lot less than OP quoted (not incl taxes).

Thanks for the replies. For the records, the car was optioned out with premium and executive packages. I think the base model is probably the way to go but have concerns over the stock audio system. Its too bad we can't upgrade individual items instead of having to spend 10k on upgrades.

That said if it's not a price bracket you're comfortable with there are a lot of other good options in the low to mid $30s. Drive a 228 for sure before you decide if $ is a concern, that's still a really nice car and for a DD you're prob not missing much depending on the kind of driving you do.

I, like the OP, am also coming from an e92 328 and found the M235 pricing to be a bargain for the performance offered. I thought about the 228 but the monthly payment for the 235 vs my 328 was not that much higher ( only ~$60).

I actually think the m235 is a bargain in Canada. $45k and is loaded up pretty nicely. Don't need the premium or exec package.
Once you take the current exchange rate into account, it's actually cheaper in Canada than the US as it comes with more standard features than in the US. Also, if you want manual, it's a bargain (as 8 spd sport auto is a $1600 option here!) Like it was stated above , the sweet spot is base car plus metallic paint, choice of transmission and that's it. Only other think I want is xm satellite radio but since it's pre wired, this can be added at the dealer at pick up. I'm seriously thinking of ordering a 2015 pretty soon (going tomorrow to talk to dealer and test drive) for a daily driver. My wife drives the f30 328 and I love that car also.
