The 2-series certainly seems to be limited around here. Since I bought mine in May, I've only spotted 3 or 4 228i's (saw two white 228i's, so might've been the same car) and my first M235i just yesterday - same color as mine. Yes, they seem to be rare. And I'll admit that I'm rather enjoying it.

Haven't seen another M235i in Dallas yet, but I have spotted two 228i's.

Maybe they are in short supply?

But I think it has more to do with perceived value of a 2 series vs. the 3. I presume most consumers (not those of this forum) view the 2-series as the conspicuous step down from the 3. They can either get a 235 or 328; why not just get the 3 series for a similar amount of money and the brand value the 3 carries.

That prevents the perception of, "Oh, he could not afford the 3, maybe next time buddy" discussion.

In Rhode Island I have only seen 1 other 2 series on the road. Now that the x-drives are here I expect to be seeing more soon.

My dealer has 4 on the lot right now...all x-drives

First, there is no 3 series coupe just in case you didn't know. Second, the 4 series is big, really big. Third, the is availability at dealers so maybe you should read what everyone has said. The question isn't why aren't people buying them it's why aren't any being made. My dealer was alloted 16 for the year and has sold everyone they have received 8 228 and 8 M235. Also you might want to check your facts, the M235 is a hell of a lot more expensive than a 328 and basically the same price as the 335 sedan.

Read it and understand it Lucky. There have been two on the lot at the local dealership closing in on a month. If there was overarching public demand, I am not sure what the business case for BMW to not meet that demand. The ones that want this car are probably willing to wait. Please check your facts. Option up a 3/435 with the same gear and it is not basically the same price as a 235 but closer to a similar 328.

Hmm I didn't have any issue allocation-wise ordering my M235i from my local dealership.

I haven't seen others on the road, although a couple of members here are in the area. Just checked my dealer's inventory on their site....they have four 228i XDrive in stock, two black, one silver, one white. Without ordering, probably unlikely to find rear wheel drive or manual trans around here. 100% of their 3 Series inventory is Xdrive automatics.

So after reading these replies and seeing some reports around the US (probably applies around the world) both 2 Series cars that are now in the US, 228i and M235, are in limited production with more than enough demand. Not the dozens of 3 Series cars you may see in inventory at dealers.

To me BMW AG and BMWNA have a limited role in mind for 2 Series cars, like they did for 1 Series cars before 2014. They want to have a car in this price range but they don't to lead with it-lower profitability, production scale in Leipzig, effect the sales of more 2 Series cars might have on 3's and 4's, whatever.

My very recent 2 Series ED experience in Europe was everything I thought it would be and more! My 228i (Mineral Gray, Oyster, Sport Line, ZMT, loaded up with all the other stuff I wanted) is one terrific car.

I think those of us lucky enough to get one equipped the way we want it will love it the way we loved our other BMW's. It will be a great resale car-cared for by a limited group of enthusiastic owners, in a good price range; not a car (like the ordinary 3 Series sedans) in wide supply purchased by people who want the brand more than the car.

I expect US sales for the two 2 Series cars that are available now, the convertible coming shortly and other variants coming later, to peak and level at 1500 units per month-up from 700 per month in the US now-in model year 2016 and beyond.

My advice is get one of these cars and order the way you want it. The wait will be worth it compared to the hit and miss of what's left over at dealers. They are not going to make you any different deal due to limited supply. The chances of you coming anywhere near the car you really want it from dealer stock is very small.

Long live the limited production 2 Series!

Whatever the reason I love to have a some what rare car at 50k, especially one that can hang with some really special cars on the road with a few mods. The m235 is going to attract a certain buyer, others would rather drop some of those standard options to save money. That being said there is not going to be a huge demand outside of our community. For the first 6 months the car was in production, they were almost impossible to find and orders were limited. I assume by now that has been straightened out. As mentioned above I think when they drop the M235 for a optionable 235i, I think they will push this platform a little more and leave the exclusivity for the m2. Until then I'm more than happy.

On my base there's a whole bunch of 3 series and a few 4/5 series, but I'm the FIRST to have an M235i here in Aviano! First weekend with the new ride and boarder patrol in Croatia asked if my car was an m3 or m4 lol.

Same situation here..I was lucky to find my manual rear drive. Surprisingly it was in their showroom for over 190 days...no one wants manual rear wheel drive cars here...I'm confident a good set of snow tires and wheels will see me through an RI winter just fine and with extra fun snow donuts.

I got through the last six Michigan winters on rear wheel drive with a set of Blizzak WS60. They are now up to WS80s, which I just received to prepare for this winter. Also very good are Michelin X-Ice xi3. I'd avoid the so-called performance winter tires, which are too much of a compromise on snow/ice vs. the "studless" category.

I wish it was this simple but I am waiting on BMW Military Sales to call my with the final details. The dealer I purchased my car from is not able to or does not know how to track the vehicle. I have gone through all the normal processes of track it but BMW NA nor the dealer I purchased the vehicle from has knowledge of the shipping. I just know where the vehicle is going because I was able to choose any BMW dealer in the states as the vehicles final destination.

I will now be looking at vesselfinder.com zoomed in on the vehicle loading/unloading docks for any ships that have previously been docked at Bremerhaven after my finaly payment was made.
