M235i Cooling Problem?!
Hello guys,
i have a Problem... Yesterday on a tour, I've found the following problem: i drive a long time normaly, than i go to the manuel mode and i shift late but never over 5000 rpm (i have the 8AT Sport). suddenly, came a loud whir and the steering wheel has slight vibrations emitted I think this is the cooler fan, from the outside is the be heard very clearly, but the big Problem is, the gas assumption was much worse, one might almost say the transmission went crazy and it turned much later. after I got the engine off and about 20 minutes've waited all went back to normal and the problem came all day on no longer. Have you any Idea, what could be that? and there was no error message in the display... |

The cooling fan on my M235i is very noisy. It also doesn't feel that well balanced and can as you say be felt through the steering wheel. I've noticed the fan cut in on the odd occasion, just as I'm about to come to a stop. It surprised me as I hadn't been driving hard and wasn't in traffic.

I haven't noticed the fan much, but these thing do run hot. Seems the thermostat is ~220 or maybe higher. I am still breaking it in, but when I monitor the temp once fully warmed up, it is ~222-228F. This is with easy driving.

Is it possible that this is a Euro problem? I keep hearing random posts of extra cooling on the NA models (ironically also on my Canadian model lol)

I have no issues with my systems/car in my area. The car is very strong in all conditions with no negative reactions from the car requiring a period of cooling. I am south of Stuttgart and use A-8/A-81/A-5 and in the Alb. City driving or open roads and the M235i responds perfectly.

With engine cool, I would remove pressure cap on cooling system and then run the engine for between 5-10 minutes - stationary - no driving - but it helps to have a breeze or air flow around the radiator grill area.
Maybe an air-pocket or bad cap |

Just experienced this. Normal driving and it has happened twice (I have had the car for 4 days!) Doesn't seem to be a loss of power but the fan is very loud and the vibration can be felt through the steering wheel.
What have people done? I am bringing it in to dealer for a check. |

You guys need to get the 850w cooling fan.
Never got this problem anymore. Everything was done without costs at my local dealer.

Did they retrofit the high power relay required for 850w fan on passenger side wheel arch near coolant expansion tank on your car? BMW changed again the reference of 600w cooling fan in september 2014 so it should be fixed with new reference and car coding. |

I was one of the first with this problem according to bmw and as I was having the problem, they dind`t have a solution. Then I got the 850w fan. Maybe they found out that the 600w is a cheaper solution, so they are using this one now. My car is from 04/2014
