228i vs CLA250? No comparison?

So I was messing around on the websites and realized something.

CLA250 + sport package and base 228i costs exactly the same, $33025 including handling and delivery.

Which makes the CLA 250 seems like a really weak package seeing how it's FWD, has less power and torque, no MT6 option.

Obviously most people will agree with me because this is the 2 forum.

What are your guy's thoughts?

Obviously 228i has its downs. Laggy n20 turbo engine instead of the smooth revvy NA6 in 128i, ghost-like electric power steering, useless Eco mode and stop-start that detract from the enthusiast experience, but still, 128i is spilt milk and in the current situation, 228i is definitely the sweeter package than CLA or A3.

I completely agree 100%.

228i from a performance standpoint is the best. The same story goes against the new a3 sedan, which is priced similarly to the CLA.

Unfortunately, many people buy cars due to brand name. I have many Asian fiends with Lexus is250 which costs the same as my 128i. I let them drive the car, and they are like wow the cars are completely different xD

chose the CLA over the 2 series wanted 4 doors and the 3 series was to big and boring looking - similarly optioned 3 series and CLA, the 3 series was actually $10 a month cheaper lease

Only disagreement with your statement is I'd take the N20 any day over the the N52. More hp, much more torque, much faster with better gas mileage. There really isn't turbo lag, I had the same "lag" with a 2007 X3 with the N52 and it has nothing to do with the Turbo it's just programming with the transmission. I've owned many NA BMW's with 2.8 and 3.0 and the N20 is far superior except in sound.

It really just depends what you're looking for. I have a feeling not many people will cross shop the 228i and CLA250. The only reason people will cross shop the CLA45 and the M235i is performance. Take that factor away, and you go with the CLA if you want 4 doors and an interior, and you go with the 228i if you want a smaller car, two doors, and don't care as much about a flashy interior. Seems like that's all there really is to it.
