iPhone 6 adapter yet?

Hi Folks,

Forgive me if you've discussed this recently. I searched, but didn't find it. I see that BMW is still offering an adapter for an iPhone 5 and 5s, but no mention of the 6 yet that I can find.

Does it exist? Anybody know? Seems like anybody interested in the state of the in cars would be a likely candidate to already have a state of the art phone. So there must be other people asking about this.

Thanks.

When the iPhone 7 comes out....? These companies are useless! They'd make a lot of money if they're up to date with small things like these. The market for people with iPhones who drives bmws is huge.

But no one would buy this adapter if it comes out 18 months after the phone is introduced considering people change phones every 18-24 months

+1. I do have the Media adapter which I'm using with my iPhone 5, but I will not buy a new one after the day comes when I decide to upgrade my phone (even if the right one exists) - apart from a little more tidy central console, no real benefits compared to the USB cable. The fan is a joke and doesn't prevent my iPhone from getting really warm sometimes (I believe it would be much cooled down much better if it's not fixed to the adapter); also I guess the stronger GSM signal thanks to the connection to the car's antenna is a myth (there is no DA converter in the cradle, so just as it is unable to convey video, it cannot really get signal from the car antenna - or am I wrong here?)

I was told there won't be an iPhone 6 adapter due to size.

The cradle does in fact use the car's antenna.

Would you care to provide us with some evidence? All signals going in or out the iPhone connector are digital (starting with the 5, I believe).

I don't know much about the signals and how they operate, but I'd assume that the phones are able to re-route the signal to a better option. I highly doubt BMW would put out a blatant lie too.

i believe up until the iphone 5/5s they utilized a connection ring around the phone to passively boost the cell phone signal. The ring was connected to the sharkfin and apparently does result in some improvement of cell reception.

I would prefer if BMW just used an active cell signal booster like these:

Our guys who work in remote areas all use them in their trucks, definitely helps. And it just acts as a repeater. Not ideal, but works well enough.

If they put repeaters in all the cars then the booster could work for all occupants and no need for different cradles for different phones.

I don't share your trust in BMW marketing blah-blah; am not an expert of digital vs. analog and which one is needed for the antenna, but I know this:

- there definitely is no D/A converter in my iPhone 5 cradle
- the signal strength as shown on the phone (and iDrive monitor) is always the same with phone in my pocket or in the cradle

1. Buy the cradle
2. Do tests to figure out whether or not they're lying
3. Sue for false-advertising
4. ??????
5. Profit!

Whenever Apple comes out with a new phone form, within days, there are cases available from a bunch of different manufacturers. Why it takes BMW forever to adapt is mystifying.

Separate topic, but there's also an increasing gap between phone usability and car infotainment usability. While BMW's is pretty good now, compare entering an address on your car's nav to entering it in your iPhone. You hunt and peck your way through each letter in the car, while on the phone, you push the microphone button and say the address, or name of the place. Plus Google maps has more up to date traffic and route info.

Look, I'm buying an M235i because I love the way it drives. But you can see why Apple thinks it can enter the car business.

I've had my "Universal" iPhone adapter now for about a week, and am loving it. It seems to have woken up the HK system, as the bass seems to be deeper. Purchased from a Silver Springs dealer for around $225 (-$60 for non Apple). I have an iPhone 6, and it's secured on the base via clip.
