Nice. This forums needs more vids like this one. Have you used the M laptimer or Harry's laptimer?

Yeah, the track section of the forum is pretty dead lol.

No, I used to use an external 10hz GPS and trackmaster for data over lay.

Now I just use a normal transponder.

Nice video, really good perspective on what its like to drive on a track. Never been but I plan on it when I leave Hawaii next year. Will be living in TX! It looks really bumpy, is that normal when on a track? Are you on any suspension or was it oem on sport mode? Also your RPMS were really high consistently is that ok? I feel I would have ran a higher gear on some of those straight aways.. Again, I have no experience just wanted to know, thanks for the vid Anthony!

Oh yes welcome to texas: COTA, MSR Houston, MSR cresson, driveway austin, Harris hill raceway, San Antonio race way, texas world speedway, hallet, we have plenty of tracks for you to become a veteran quickly.

NASA, Chin, drivers edge, edge addicts, scca, spokes, bmw CCA all host many events yearly.

Expect high ambient temps here (100+), lots of mustangs, getting addicted, and you'll quickly realize how much heft the car has and how much it can understeer.

I've always been told to run highway speeds with high rpm on cool down laps to help the engine get in a lot of air and help itself cool down

I don't wanna speak for Anthony but these cars are pretty softly sprung. Even in sport. So you'll do some bouncing around but that's not all bad. some tracks like MSR cresson where there are a lot of elevation changes and bumps I drive in comfort mode to help the tires stay in cot act with the road. At COTA I find it better to run in sport suspension Bc the firmer springs help get throug right-left transitions faster and it is a smooth track.
My .02 cents - hope it helps
I'd love to hear what Anthkny has to say
I'll be at Texas world speedway next month so maybe I'll get a vid up of that

That track is really bumpy and in my opinion horribly maintained. Especially the run off areas (the area off the track if you go off the track), but I was eager to take the car out for its first track day and the date for this worked out. I also have lap times here from my previous cars and wanted to use them as a reference point.

My next track day will be at Auto Club Speedway. Which is a very nice professional track.

I'm on KW Clubsport coilovers so the OEM electronic suspension is completely taken out.

Yes, I was figuring out the gearing for this track throughout the day. As for the straights; if I went up a gear I would have been in 7th gear. Stay out of the over drive gears if you can. This track is known for it's very high speeds. I'm deep in 6th on the straights and even in that big right hand sweeper at the end of the back straight. That was a 125mph turn for me.

The car has enough TQ that you don't have to downshift that much. Depending on the situation you might upshift early (I tend to shift before redline on the big straights) or in some cases you might bounce off the rev limiter right before a turn since up shifting and then downshifting right after will just slow you down.

I was trying to figure out if the "omega" (the part with the tight turns) was a 3rd gear section or a 4th gear section.

Luckily with the 8at shifting a lot has way less of an impact on time than a manual. My first auto and I was impressed.

Good luck on the track and have fun! Take your time and run at your own pace.

Funny, I do the opposite to cool the car down. I put it in a high of a gear as possible when accelerating. This makes the turbo want to spool more...brings in more air. Drops my intake and water temps fast

I run a higher spring rate up front than what my Clubsports came with. They come with a 514lb spring. I run a 685lb spring now. This is slightly higher than the Clubsport spring on the M3/4. Rear is stock 2series Clubsport which I believe is a 685lb spring too.

Keep in mind I run a 255 square tire. So my spring rates may not work for you.

I have no idea what the OEM 235i spring rate are, but they are considerably less than I run. From a pure track point of view the OEM suspension is seriously lacking. Fine for the street and track for most people though.

SerenVoX My biggest suggestion from a hardware perspective is get a good track brake pad and flush the brake fluid with a quality "race spec" fluid. I run Pagid race pads and motul RBF600 fluid.

Even as a beginner you can cook your brakes fast.....especially a beginner. That's the last thing you want to worry about. Other than that have fun. If you get hooked you'll have plenty of time to spend money going fast

camera angle

Would it be possible to mount the camera more forward and centered?
Also, it would be great to hear the engine.

You could mount it on the windshield, but then you can't see the cockpit.

I like to see my steering and RPM/Speed in my vids if possible. I might mount it onto the underside of the sunroof next time if it doesn't block too much rear visibility. Also thinking about mounting it on the opposite driver side window to look over my left shoulder. Not sure if it will be adequate though.

You can get an external mic if you want more engine noise. I don't have one.

Do you have camber plates on those Clubsports? What kind of camber are you running to make those 255s fit? Helper springs in or out?

I'm almost definitely getting the same wheel setup as you when the springtime comes, and I'm curious to see how much front tire I can run. 2017 will be narrow fronts and DINAN springs, but hopefully by 2019 i'll be on a similar suspension/wheel setup as you.

Nice driving, I would love to take mine on track this year, but I'll munch through the front tires with ease. I'll probably end up just tracking my E30.. Tires are much cheaper and I already have track brakes for it
