God help us. I'm already a little afraid of my car at times. But I'll undoubtedly get this done.

I spotted the wheel, but they really didn't look all that great on the car....
Wheels aside though, I absolutely can not wait to see what Dinan does with this platform! |

They may be overpriced, but they come with a warranty that matches the factory warranty. That is, in part, what you are paying for. Will any other aftermarket tuner fix your engine if you bend a rod or spin a bearing because of their tune?

Had an '09 e90 335 with Burger Motorsports JB tune from about 3K miles to 34,000 miles, driven HARD, without a hiccup. Sold the car to a neighbor and it is now 6 yrs with the tune and perfect. 1/3rd the price and 6 different maps (we get 93 octane here) and I'm comfortable with them now. Current CTS-V with supercharger pulley upgrade, long tube headers, etc. and 30+K on it without an issue as well. They say "you have to pay to play", but most of these new cars have a lot of engineering "room to grow". Each may have a weak link (old rubber bypass valves on the older B4 Audi S4 for example), perhaps the charge pipe on the N54/55, but the tuners know this and they can be upgraded as well. Wild tuning/suspension mods anyway typically ruins the overall balance of a car IMHO, but I love forced induction vehicles for ease of a mild tune, driveability, and reliability. |

I agree that part of what you're paying for is the Dinan warranty, but how much would it suck to overpay for their parts/tune only to have it voided by taking your car to the track? Honestly I've never understood why people would do performance mods and not track their car/bike anyway...... Does anyone have any first hand experience with Dinan that can share their experience? |

If bang for the buck were the only factor, we'd all be driving Subaru WRX's. We're spending $10k extra on quality, design, ride, etc. Yet many of these same people want to go cheap and only pay $400 for a "clip-on" tune. Dinan seems to work very carefully in terms of performance and reliability and they stand behind their products with a pretty incredible warranty. More engineering, better warranty and BMW-approved. It seems to me, that's what you're paying for. |

i never said i was looking for something "cheap". if dinans tune squeezed out more power than jb4 in the long run, i have no problem with getting that, but apparently thats not the case. i thought this a power game, not a $$$ game. its pretty much saying that you're only going to stick with bmw parts because it has So much more engineering and quality behind it. in the end you're just riding on brands instead of making the car more enjoyable. just as another member said on the forums, most affluent people stay very understated in terms of displaying wealth. the only people i see spending ton of money on shitty performance (because its a "BMW") is people who grew up around money and dont see any value. just cause i can afford something doesn't justify getting it. |

To each their own... I rather pay and not go the cheap route. I'm not going into a pricing exercise on the tune it's (imo) the most important piece. Especially for us guys that are in an area where temps/air condition change drastically throughout the seasons.
If the other tunes are just as good then why are they not backed by the tuners? Common sense imo. I'm pretty surprised at the lack of knowledge when it comes to tuning. It's not just about performance. It's about getting the most out of the engine safely. I've had 3 cars tuned 1 n/a and 2 f/i and all were done using a conservative tune. Tune it wrong and it's like driving a ticking time bomb... Last edited by BLK235iNJ; 07-06-2014 at 10:35 PM.. |

b) What you pay for Dinan is what you get. Other tuners give you a tool to unlock potential which can lead to problems if you are careless and run tunes your car cannot safely handle. |

Dinan has more money for a reason (reputable business) it's not just about "Dinan has more money" bottom line they put their balls on the line when they touch your car. That's what I'm looking for. Another consideration--- resell. I'd rather resell a car holding Dinan products than a car holding products from a lower brand. Either you go cheap because you know you can afford to pay up when stuff breaks or you go the safe route and pay up front a small amount more for piece of mind. Some guys are tactical and some guys are strategic. In the end it's not my car so do whatever you want to it. |

No, I don't agree... It is obviously more than the two points I made, but those two points imply quite a bit. If you put a piggy back tune and stay at stage 1, you'll be fine. Go and do a custom tune and exceed specs and things can blow.

If I wanted to buy a car to tune it and make more power I would have looked into an Evo or Sti If I want to tune my BMW, I'm going to make sure the quality is of factory standards or better. If that makes me a snob then so be it. |
