Nice ! Do you know if it will fit on the european M235i ? Our cars have different cooling system from factory (this is why we don't have the same front bumper).

Will it use the factory oil cooler lines/connections (or AN fittings and line) and factory oil cooler thermostat? I ran a setrab on my last car.

Side question: For cars that come with the factory secondary cooler on the driver side. Is that a tranny cooler or for water (radiator)?

Has anyone run into issues with heat on a 235?

I was wondering the same thing.

Over-specing an oil cooler is just as dangerous as under-specing one. Too large a cooler and the oil will never get up to operating temp on the street. That's bad news bears.

For the street it really won't be necessary, unless you do aggressive canyon runs in high temps.

As for it under cooling...It should not be an issue if it utilizes the factory oil thermostat. On my NISMO Z I had to run a completely aftermarket oil cooler solution that added a thermostatic plate. This allows the car to get up to a good operating temp before it starts flowing to the oil cooler.

So as long as ER one uses some sort of thermostat it should not be an issue. Though even with that it will take longer than normal to get up to operating temp.

I would be interested in a an option that allows us to utilize the factory lines. AN fittings can be tricky when it comes to getting them just right (leaks). Would be nice if they include conical washers to mitigate the potential risk if they do use AN fittings.

Can you tell I've ran oil coolers before? lol

What core are they using? In house or aftermarket?

The F30 oil cooler will replace the factory oil cooler lines with AN fittings and lines. It will retain the factory oil thermostat. It also retains the factory oil heatsink cooler.

The secondary cooler (driver's side) is an auxiliary coolant (water) cooler.

Anthony is correct. That is the purpose of the oil thermostat, to not allow oil temperatures to drop below a certain temperature.

The N54 and N55 engines run very hot oil temps. This still holds true for the N55 in the F30. This is even more evident on the track. This we tested during our development of the oil cooler. With the factory oil cooler, temperatures would reach 260F or more. With our upgraded oil cooler, temperatures drop to around 235-240F which is the normal operating temperature. Temperature stayed very consistent throughout the session unlike the factory oil cooler which would have big spikes in temperature.

Good to hear. For me 260* and I start to get worried. 280* and it's time to go for a cool down lap ASAP.

From the factory it seems the oil thermostat opens at 240*. What will the ER open at? Will the kit come with a new oil cooler valve? I think the BMS one makes it open all the time. I've seen someone else offer one that opens at 180* and think that is the best option.

Please also include conical AN washers with the kit

Any plans on doing anything with the secondary radiator?

I could have sworn the M235 runs a more robust oil cooling system than the one used in the F30 N55. We all know the N54 is an oil killer.
