Did anyone order a car and have a trade-in?

If so, how did you work it? Did you need to have it re-apprised and then finalize the trade-in when the car you ordered arrived?

No re-apprised, just to bring back the car in same condition and mileage that averages out to what has been accumulated - if averaging 700 miles / month over life of car try not to exceed that in the month and a half new car is being made.
Now there was a minuscule price increase on new BMW cars between the time ordered and time delivered and they asked me to pay that

Yes, I am trading in a 2015 Lexus, I actually put in about 600km after the initial order however no comment about any price adjustments. I will be getting the new car on Thursday so I will update if there are any changes. My order date was May 9th and delivery of the new one is tentatively for July 27th.

No reappraisal needed, just traded in my car today to pick up the new one. I drove about 500km after the initial appraisal and was just shy of 3 months ago. Easy in and easy out.

Interesting. I'm looking to buy a 230i. Went to a dealership Wed and started talking about the deal. I was told that for a custom order (taking maybe 3 months to come in) they wouldn't give me any indication of my trade-in's value (not even a ballpark) at this time, saying too much could happen to it in the 3 months. I was told I would have to come in within 2 weeks of the delivery date to learn what they would give me for my car. I can't believe that is standard practice. Not at all acceptable to effectively be forced to accept whatever they then decide so effectively the discussion stopped there. I haven't visited the other dealer in town yet to see what they say.

Reads like the dealership is being foolish.
My sales contract had a paragraph in the fine print that protected the dealership from any losses if the buyers trade-in took an inexplicable value drop during the waiting period.
For any large purchase to be dependent on one of the appraisal/selling price to be determined at time of final sale is crazy.

Odd. I just ordered an M240i and the very first thing my dealer wanted to do was get me a trade-in appraisal. Maybe this dealer just has 2016s they want to get rid of first and are trying to discourage orders for the new model.

That may be just a dealer specific procedure. I had two dealerships tell me that the wait of 2-3 months for a factory build shouldn't be any issues. The trade in was fine for me too as there was no re-appraisal. I guess putting only 500 km on the car since 3 months ago wouldn't make any changes, plus I kept the car sparkling clean and parked in the garage might make a difference.
