Congratulations on the ED trip. I in all honesty enjoyed yours the most. You put it in perspective and left no detail out on what would one need to do to make it a stress free and safe trip. I too am inexperienced on the track and one day would love to ED and visit Nurburgring.

Lots of great pics, I enjoyed them all. Thanks again.

By the way we're those Delta premium economy seats or business? I hate coach but also hate to pay the insane business class prices. Premium economy is a happy in between and worth it.

Great write up of your trip and pictures! I always enjoy reading others ED trips. I've been lucky enough to have been on two and want to go back so badly. Great call on the vignette website. I book marked it for next time!!

Any rough estimate on what you spent on the trip?
I'm considering ED but am also trying to figure costs.
Are there any gotcha;s if you were to do ED during the winter months?
Tire requirements (winter tires) and such?
The trip cost approximately $5000 for travel, lodging, food, and activities, which is what I budgeted. Keep in mind that this could have been done for less. Two of the hotels, while very nice, were too expensive. We could have picked a 3-star hotel for less and had the same experience. We also didn't need to travel business class, but I am glad we did.

You are correct on the winter tires being the main issue to be aware of during a winter ED. There are companies that will rent you winter wheels and tires. You also must return the car to Munich when you do this.

Those were business class seats. The premium economy seats have more leg room than coach and recline further, but do not lay flat or come with the amenities of business class.

Thanks on the vignette response. Did you get business class tickets and all that travel for $5k for two or were you upgraded? If you got it included, you got a steal!

Great trip and great photographs and write-up!

(It's amazing to me how common the European USB map drives fails. Mine did as well, and based on threads on the board, this is not uncommon. Hopefully by the time I do ED again, there will be a different process!)

Yeah if that's the case that's a very nice upgrade. This time of year I see one round trip business class ticket going roughly for $2k. Premium economy is around $1300-1700 depending on carrier. I doubt those prices are in the summer peak travel season though.

Excellent review

Tx

Did you have to get an international drivers license or did your US drivers license pass muster

I recall at one point on a business trip a couple years back it was required if I were to rent a car iirc.

I think I miscalculated. The plane tickets were $1850 each with service fees. I used BMW's travel agency to book the flight and two of the hotels. The prices were better than what I had been finding on my own. The total for the trip was approximately $6200. Again, I know there were ways to reduce cost. $5000 for the number of days and locations we visited is realistic.

For certain countries (Austria, France, and Italy) an international driver's license is required along with your US license. For Germany and Switzerland it is highly recommended. It costs $20 to obtain one from a local AAA.
