M240i vs 2013 335 IS
Hi all,
Had an E90 330i for 9years. Sold it in 2014. After some disappointing test drives of the early F3x 335i, I decided to hold off. I finally felt like M235i had the best compromise between EPS and ride quality and sportiness. So ended up ordering a M240i. Its en route now I recently had second thoughts that maybe I should have gotten the 440i for its looks but after few test drives, same conclusion: 440i is good but not as sporty. I just now came across this lightly used 335IS 2013 model with low miles for some 35k. That's a very good car for that money. I was wondering if anyone has compared the 335IS directly to M235 or 240i. I came across an older thread for where prople are discussing the same but it was 2 3 years when very little was known about the M235i. So I figured I will restart this discussion an I am sure many potential M235 or 240i buyers are in the same boat as I am.. |

I had a 2012 335is until 2015 when me lease was up and I got an m235i xdrive. I still miss certain things about the IS that my m235 doesn't have, like those sick 19" wheels, the smoothness of the dct, and the led brake lights and turn signals. Also being 6 foot 4 I felt a bit more comfy in the IS. however the 235 has things the IS didn't, such as all wheel drive which is nice in the winter in Colorado. also it's estoril blue, which is my favorite color of all time, and has several others things my IS didn't have such as a back up camera, m sport brakes, adaptive suspension and a nicer interior. generally I felt that the IS was a bit more luxurious and comfy; whereas the m235 is a bit more on the sporty side. however the one area that the IS was much better in was steering feel!
I hope this helps. good luck with your decision. |

With that said see if you can test drive both back to back. I seriously don't you wont be happy with an M240i. The first time I drove the M235i was at the PCD in SC. That car made such an impression on me that I lusted after it for two year until I bought mine. I've had a new car ever couple of years since 99' and this is the first one I'll be keeping.

I think the E92 335is is a great car, but I don't see myself paying 35k+ for it. I saw it in person in my local dealership a few weeks ago and it definitely feels it's something in between the regular 335i and the E92 M3 (though I would say it's obviously closer to the 335i).
I didn't drive it because the previous owner wasn't very careful with the interior and for the level of wear and tear I saw, it was a deal breaker for me. I'm not a fan of these new giant 19' wheels that they put on these cars. For me the 240/18/40 profile has the perfect proportions. Anything bigger than that feels "too much". It's a personal preference and I respect the ones who like it. |
