Anyone add Parking Assistant?

Just curious, does anyone spend $500 for the Parking Assistant? I did a lot of research on BMW dealers' website and read many postings before I made my purchase decision. But I never saw anyone add this function.

For those who add Parking Assistant, do you feel it useful?

Embarrassingly, slightly, I ordered it. I have always taken great pride in my parking skills, getting into tight spots with maybe only a few inches to spare fore and aft. However at 63, I find that it isn't so easy to turn my neck around! I also now wear eyeglasses to correct my astigmatism which seems to have screwed up my depth perception. I bought a new MB GL 350 which has parking assistant and it is amazing. It parks this huge truck basically hands off. Every time I do it I just giggle to myself. It's actually pretty amazing technology that I thought was total BS until I tried it. When I was much younger I never even considered having cruise control in my cars, which were all stick as well. I guess I am just getting older and softer To that point I am trading in my 997.2 S Cabriolet (manual trans of course) for the new M235i Convertible with the auto box. After many years as a PCA driving instructor I am finally growing up, maybe.

I got the drivers assistance package but not parking assistant. I feel that the drivers assistance is really all you need. Plus I haven't had to parallel park in over 6 years.

Originally I had opted out of the drivers assistance package but changed my order because I wanted to keep up with the times. Apparently all new vehicles produced on or after 2018 will be required to have a backup camera.

I got it on my M235 only because the only way we can get the reversing camera in Australia is in a package in combination with parking assistant.

Used it once to see how it works and it parked in a spot 2 places back from the spot I wanted.

I've heard stories about a lot of VWs with park assist still kerbing wheels. I'm concerned about using it again.

I have it and have used it. I've always been an excellent parker so I just got it as a toy. I doubt you will ever hit the curb when using it but be warned - it parks you within an inch or so of the curb so you are at risk of rim rash if you backup to leave. A few friends called me a soccer mom for having it LOL. I can say it works perfectly though and have gotten into some tight spots around Portland with it.

It came with my car and I find it pretty useful, though not a deal breaker if I didn't have it. The M235 is a pretty small car by today's standards.

+ 1.. It is useful, but by no means necessary
