Popping noise?
Anyone else notice a loud popping noise when backing up slowly with wheel turned all the way to one side? It's been going on for a while, it surely can't be normal, almost sounds like a bad cv joint or hub bearing. Just seeing if anyone else has this going on. Car only has 7k miles on it.

Happened to me 2 or 3 times.
Backing out of parking space & wheel turned all the way. I believe it's simple stiction from the front drivers side suspension joint (ball joint ?). I never thought if it as a defect or problem - but I'm curious if steering racks should be turned all the way to lock? Last edited by overcoil; 12-28-2014 at 09:03 AM.. |

That is kind of normal if its ALL the way turned while backing up. I drive them all day and if its a very slight noise i think i know what youre talking about. I never force the wheel all the way.

Wow. Thought I was the only one this was happening too. Happens mostly with my wife, she insists on locking the steering when backing up. What could it be?

Could it be the performance tires are too cold? I have heard that some tires cause pop noises when its cold and you are turning all the way. There is even a YouTube video of a Porsche 911 doing it. Take a look.

That could be possible, the first time I noticed it was once it got cold.

I was getting this too, fairly often when reversing with the wheel cranked. Even in warm weather. Has not happened since I switched to the winter boots.

Hi, I've just picked up my new F22 a month ago (1000 km) and a couple weeks ago I also started to ear a popping noise (like "troc", it's just an isolated noise) coming from the steering when I park the car or when I turn the wheel when I am in reverse at low speeds. I notice that the quicker I turn the wheel the louder the sound is. The odd part is that sometimes it happens sometimes it doesn't.
It's seems that I am not the only one having this "problem" and I was wondering if any of you asked your BMW dealership about it and what was the answer they gave you. Thanks, |
