Just realized something very dissapointing regarding alarm system

So i just realized (took me a while for it to click) that bmw somehow doesnt think it should include a basic alarm as standard. I know these cars are almost impossible to steal for the average thief so someone stealing the car isnt really a concern to me. I live in a not so good neighborhood and they have stolen like 2 hondas in my block yet my neighbors 335 and 550 are parked on the street and never had an issue But anyways, my biggest problem is the fact that no alarm = no panic button. So that means that my current $19k Hyundai has an alarm standard and this doesnt? I think not being able to "click the car" to find it in a parking lot will be a pretty big deal to me coming from a cheaper car that has it. Too late now, just sharing the thought wondering if anyone who ordered without the alarm shares the same feeling

I feel you on that alarm issue.

You can try using the BMW Remote app to find where you parked your car. They just updated it to iOS 8. Definitely not the same as having a panic button, but probably the best alternative besides getting an aftermarket alarm.

Off topic, I really miss auto dimming rear view mirrors :/

Do you need the tech package or premium to be able to use that remote app?

You also need to buy the alarm system to get an audible confirmation that the car locked when you pressed the button (unless you're close enough to hear the click). In addition, you've got that goofy looking red light on the bottom of your mirror that is completely useless without the alarm system (when you have the alarm that light slowly blinks when the alarm system is on both to thwart thieves and as a visual confirmation to you that the car is locked). Having to pay $400 so you can hear when the car is locked is ridiculous when, as you say, even the cheapest of cars have the car lock at least hooked into the horn to give you a beep. As you said, the alarm system isn't really about preventing the theft of the car. It's about the owner's piece of mind and I guess BMW figures that enough people will spend $400 for that. Shame on them.

I'm not exactly sure. I don't think you do though, I've overhead a convo with a SA telling a customer to use it on her base model 320i.

Yes and no. You have none of the find my car, unlock my car features. However you can use the store my cars location before exiting the car and use that feature to locate your car

You can always have the dealer install the alarm. The car is prewired for an alarm.

None of the BMWs I have owned came with an alarm.

The honk on the remote app is useless, it literally takes 3 minutes to go through.

Nope. Last year BMW's (in US) were pre-wired for alarm was 2009.

Alarms are useless. If there is something to steal, consider it as an invite. The key is needed to start the car, stereo is locked without the pass key and with BMW assist they for the most part know exactly where your car is within a few feet.

If you'd do more research you'd know exactly what you were buying. There is always next time.
