so a friend of mine, software engineer early 30s strolled into a bmw dealership with his 2 little girls (3 of his coworkers, also friends of mine have a new X5 and a 335is and a e38 7 series. he just sees bmws every day at lunch) just to browse

sales guy asks him if he wants to test drive a m235 and he drives the 1 m235i on the lot, and decided, you know what i've never bought a nice car in my life and maybe this is the last chance i have to get one because my daughters will be older and ill have to send them to college etc (his daughters are like 4 and 7) and i'll never have the money for it....

so he falls in love with the m235i since his 2 daughters loved it and they can easily sit in the back and they liked him driving around like a lunatic in it.

orders an estoril blue m235i, 8at, LSD, tech, premium etc. pretty much loaded. has it custom ordered in july, and it was supposed to arrive this week.

Anyway, this week the dealer inform him that the car was damaged in shipment beyond repair and would have to be reordered which could take months since they dont have any build slots at that dealer. my friend, having basically sat their in anticipation of his toy for like 5 months is crushed.

You would think this story is sad. But then again my friend has some issues with impulse control.... and this morning on facebook i see what he ended up doing.... the m235i can make a man wildly insane and lose it. cautionary tale.

Could've drove it off the lot that night but I went by myself and had no where to leave my Civic so decided to pick it up the next day.. Next day while on my way to the dealership.. SA called and said they accidentally sold the car.

Ended up with a less loaded M235i for $45,775.

Oh how I wish I got a white one though...

I feel you on that. I settled with my 4th favorite color cause it was hard to find one optioned the way I wanted plus the color combination. When I saw it, I figured I shouldn't wait on it and pull the trigger.

I walked in to test drive and got really lucky - a sister dealership had just got an AW optioned how I wanted in stock - got it shipped to my dealer and bought it the next weekend!

Although I had done the opposite as this - went in for a m4 walked out with m235i lol!!

seems the dealer gave him a good price m3. from what he told me he basically got it for invoice which i'm assuming is pretty good.

Happy to hear all turned out well, and he got the 2nd most fun car in the lineup, i joke. I've heard of such things happening and a good dealership will take care of you in that situation and it seems like they did.
