The report from Car magazine was pretty much raving. I think this will be very popular indeed!

Reminds me of my last car, an 06 MINI Cooper S. I loved that backfire, especially after I did the one ball exhaust mod.
Ill never understood why such sounds are consider 'good' to the exhaust modders.

I'm obviously in the (significant) minority but exhaust noise = same as ricer mods IMO.

Scott, Can we get some definitive answer on the weight of this car please.

Is it 3,380 or 3,505 ????

Sounds fine to me
+1 and it is physically larger than the E82. And much better looking.

As I have owned two E82s, I can say it isn't that pretty.

I currently have an e82 123d. 204bhp and the though of 330bhp in a similar car puts a massive grin on my face. Not regretting my march delivery!

I'm excited for my car to arrive, and still stand firm on my decision (mostly because its the only car I want that has stick (cayman/corvette out of insurance and price range lol).

I am deeply disappointed though in BMW adding weight, but its expected and we can't complain. If we want all these features, we have to pay. If not, a slightly used E82 is the solution.

This car weighs as much as the CLA45 AMG which has AWD and is much bigger (size of F30 3 series about).

I do understand all the standard features, and for the majority of the drivers, these changes are welcome.

Personally, i could care less about iDrive and 10 way adjustable seats! I plan on fixing the seats and saving many lbs : )

But really.. it is the same weight as an E82.

My bro had a basics E82 with 0 options in 2009.

It had no moonroof, no adjusting electric seats, no iDrive, and no adjustable suspension.

That alone is worth the 100 lbs of extra weight.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if a fully loaded E82 weighed the same as the M235i, its just what is standard vs what isn't.

I think, for many of us, the crackle is what distinguishes it from a "ricer" sound. It's not the volume that signifies a ricer to me. It's the frequency/tone/texture of the sound. Nothing worse than a loud exhaust that has the frequency/tone of a fly buzzing past your ear. That's ricey to me.

The M235i, on the other hand, has a grittier sound, which I appreciate and prefer over a characterless drone or the complete absence of exhaust sound.

I'd say it comes from the same place as the preference of many enthusiasts for manual transmissions. Getting in touch with the mechanical nature of the car instead of riding in a soundproof, vibrationless bubble. But hey, opinions are opinions, and everybody has one. I'd hate to be the person at BMW with the responsibility of reaching a middle ground to please as many as possible!

Bigger, heavier, softer than 1 series. Mandatory video display in line of sight.

Bravo BMW!

Yes, your target audience will appreciate the heated steering wheel which works nicely with Gucci gloves.

The real weight of 2-series is currently unknown. For example both autocar.co.uk and carmagazine.co.uk both report kerb weight 1470kg which is quite a bit less than BMW USA's weight of 1589kg.

Being in California, I'm sure you're in the same position as us in Melbourne - the dealer was going through the options with me and offered steering wheel heating. I laughed at him and told him that if BMW offered steering wheel cooling I'd take it!

They sure know their target market segment don't they!

They are measured differently by law.

Then again, the "cold weather package" is STD in Canada.

No, it is very much known.
According to BMW.de the official weight measured after EU norm is 1530kg.

This includes 90% of fuel, 68kg driver and 7 kg of luggage. MT and no options added.

I mean official US-specs weight is not known because we don't really know how much weight US standard equipment adds. Data on BMW USA site is phony because it lists the same weight for automatic and manual tranny equipped cars. Also it seems too high even with the additional eqiupment compared to base EU-specs car.
